Hello, Driver's mirror moves to fully-front (towards windscreen) position every time I turn the ignition on. Pressing the close button and open button has it close against the door properly but then open back out too far. Seems as if whatever makes it detect 'middle' position is worn/broken.
Anyone got experience of fixing this? I tried holding the button closed/open for 30secs to reset the positioning but it hasn't helped.
I unplugged the mirror but now the air-con doesn't work because the temp gauge is on the mirror. Aaagh! Which wire is for the temp gauge? Maybe I can just disconnect the mirror ones for now.
Thanks for any help!

Hmm that's weird. Have you taken the mirror off and looked inside it- can you see anything worn?

Are the mirrors supposed to fold in when you lock the car then? Mine don't- is it a relay?

Mirror fold switch? If you press 'in' both mirrors fold in against the door correctly. If you press 'out' the driver's one keeps going past the middle position and stops right out next to the windscreen. The passenger mirror stops where it should. The real problem is that the driver's mirror folds itself out every time the ignition is switched on so I have to lower the window and pull the mirror back to the middle position.

No, it isn't supposed to fold in when you lock the car. It isn't supposed to fold itself out when you turn the ignition either!

Oh so the mirror goes though a full 180? Sounds like part of the mechanism has gone- probably needs the mirror mechanism looking at?

Yeah, I think so. Just wondered if anyone has fixed this problem already before I tear it apart and break things some more.

When the fold switch is set to 'in' have you tried holding the mirror in that position while setting the switch to 'out'? Another possible solution mentioned on the Yahoo group is to disconnect the battery for 30 mins with the mirrors both folded in, then reconnect and try powering the windows out. There's a small black connector block inside the mirror that can cause problems (a squirt with some WD40 & a waggle of the wires can sort out bad connections there) but as your mirrors are moving under their own power, I doubt it's anything to do with that.

I have a similar problem on the passenger side it corrected its self one day. Now it doesn't work at all I herd a massive click when it fixed its self. It seems like I might be better off getting a new one

Came back tours once folded too far forward in a supermarket car park
Grabbed hold of it pulled it back to where it should be whilst driving
That was over a year ago
Not had a problem since

. . . as your mirrors are moving under their own power, I doubt it's anything to do with that.
Not necessarily.
There will be some sort of feedback or position sensing, so they stop where they're supposed to.

On my first Multipla, the driver's mirror never worked properly, and used to 'creep' out of position by a few degrees over a few weeks.

I'd take a look at that connector and clean if needed.

In the end I just cut the red/purple wire and that's stopped the stupid thing from moving by itself. Of course, it doesn't move with the button either, but being the driver side I can just reach out and move it, which I've had to do for weeks anyway, every time I turned the ignition. Just cut the wire and move on! :slayer:

My Passenger side Mirror has been playing up recently.
First it would 'creep' forwards a degree or two over a few days.
Then it started going fully forwards when the ignition was switched on.
Would reset to centre if you stowed it on the switch a couple of times, now it's back to normal, well, as normal as a Multi can be!

Pivot itself feels a little loose as well.

I expect it will 'go' again at some point, I'll have it apart when it does.

Mine was playing up like this, I folded them in, then out, nearside stopped in the correct position, offside went walkies to visit the screen. When it was forward I pulled it back, switched off, switched on, folded them in then out and it was ok.
Sometimes they do some weird things, just try pulling it back into position from forward or pushing it out from folded, normally it will go fully forward from folded, simply pull it back.
Hope that helps

George

Don't think so, for one thing, it was creeping forwards, I'd expect it to move the other way on closing the Door.
Secondly, it would do it even when the Passenger Door wasn't being used.
