Unsure if my thread prefix is correct apologies if wrong.
I would be grateful if anyone can help me please. I locked the doors of my multipla as usual using the central locking key. It unlocked with no problem on my return but then the door light came up saying that a door was open. I checked all doors and boot and all were closed properly. This will not clear which means the car will no longer lock.

Also a few weeks pror to this happening the airbag light came on and has remained on. This I can live with until the MOT in May but the doors not locking is not acceptable. Any help appreciated. Thank you.

pasenger or driver airbag?usualy it's bad connection problem under the seats. Can you lock doors with key(not using central locking button)?

Not sure which airbag it is and will check tomorrow. Just been reading another thread about a connection possibility so fingers crossed there.

The door will not lock using the key either. The alarm still works. All doors look closed and have been checked as being closed including the boot.

Thanks for your response.

I think that the airbag and door locking problems are unrelated. As you say, loads of threads about airbag warning light on here so no point in saying it all again.

For the locking, go around all doors & the boot and the bonnet and give each of the contact switches a good pushes in & out. It's quite possible one of them has got dirty contact. The bonnet one would be my prime suspect, but I'm not sure if that flags the 'door open' warning light.

Thank you for your reply and suggestion. Can you please tell me what the contact switches look like please? Sorry to sound ignorant but have little car knowledge other than where the petrol goes! :D

Thanks very much for your response.

Still not sure where the contact switches are but wondered if I should use WD40 on the doors, bonnet and boot?
As you are by now aware this lady is a useless mechanic!

I'm still stuck on this if anyone can help me please? Not sure where i should clean but did squart some wd40 just on the doors but not sure where or what I should be doing. Any help would be appreciated as would like to get this sorted myself if I can rather than a big bill. Thank you.

Hi, widemouthfrog is ace on here and I reckon he's right - two unrelated problems. Re: the airbag light, I'm 6'2 and my wife's 5'2. Our airbag light was always on as the drivers seat was constantly being moved back and forth a good way. Lots of duck tape keeping the wire/connection under the drivers seat secure/tight to the seat frame fixed this for us. Re: the door open light on the dash, I understand (I'm no mechanic) the door sensors are in circular plastic pipes/tubes at the front/hinge side of each door. Disconnecting the faulty sensor (ascertained by trying each one in turn) will get the error message off the dash but will mean the central locking won't lock that particular door. You really need to replace the faulty door sensor

Apologies for the delay. Work has been (and continues to be) manic for the past few weeks.

Just been out and taken this. The bonnet switch is circled in red:

That's the driver's side headlight at the bottom of the photo (complete with, ahem, precision beam adjuster in the form of a bulldog clip). Give a squirt of WD40 where the moving pin of the switch goes into the body and then pump it up & down vigorously. You can also pull the wiring connector off of the bottom of the switch, spray the terminals with WD40 then refit and waggle that around too. Then check to see if the 'door open' light has gone out (after you've shut the bonnet). You can also get someone to push down on the bonnet once it's shut; some folks on here have had problems with the switch not being pushed quite far enough in when the bonnet is shut. If pushing down on the bonnet temporarily turns the dashboard light off, then you'll need to stick something on top of the switch pin (a bit of blutak is a temporary fix) to push it in further.

The door & boot light switches are built in to the lock mechanisms. They require removal of door trims to get at them, so try the bonnet one first.

Well OT from the OP query, but you can make things a hell of a lot more comfortable for taller drivers by replacing the front pair of bolts that fix the seat to the floor with two M10x40 or 50 fine pitch HT bolts. Remove the original bolts, temporarily prop the front of the seat up so that there's 30-40mm gap between seat mountings & floor, pop the longer bolts in, threading two nuts onto each bolt before winding them back into the captive nuts in the floor. Spin the first nut right up to the head of the bolt so that it clamps the bolt to the seat; wind the bolt into the captive nut, making sure it's fully wound through the captive nut (you can check this by peering under the car), setting the height of the leading edge of the seat to taste as you do this, then spin the 'second' nut down onto the floor to lock the longer bolts in place. Make sure both bolts are adjusted to give the same height or you'll twist the seat.

I'm 6'4". Before I did this mod, I found the seats gave very little thigh support and used to get leg cramps on long journeys. Now I find the seats quite comfortable & good for 250-300 miles before I start to fidget. Best of all, I have the seat one click back from the furthest forward setting!

Widemouthfrog. Thank you for taking the time to take the photo. I would like to thank you very much for your help and advice. It is a little like a foreign language to me but will try to follow what you have said. Thanks again and I will let you know how I get on.

Thank you Joe for your help too. I'm only 5'3 but the seat has been moved a few times so will give a go. Many thanks.

the door switches are about half way down the door and post, open the door as wide as it will go look at the hinges in between you will see a round plastic piece ( on the door ) witch lines up with a corrugated round rubber switch, very simple mechanism the door presses the rubber switch and breaks the contact which in turn switches the dash board light off. on mine the door side broke off and I had the same problem, check each door, hope this helps.
