I wouldn't bother fitting a @£200 alternator on a £300 multi..,

1 years road tax + 1 tank of fuel also = £300, but I'd hope you wouldn't scrap the car just because it was in need of both at the same time :).

There comes a point where the value of the car is irrelevant. It's what the car allows you to do (and to an extent how well it does it) that matters.

Thought I'd update you since I've been silent for a long time

The noise got a bit better and was only on start up most of the time, and whenever I drove through a puddle the alternator warning light came on then went out again, so I thought I would replace the alternator when the weather got better...

Only then the noise sort of went away.

This morning it was all sunny so I thought today was the perfect day for replacing it but what a nightmare it is....

I had the alternator almost off when it occurred to me that I needed to get that piece of exhaust out of the way first, and of course that, which possibly should be the most straightforward part of the job, turned out to be the most difficult one....

So for now I will spray lots of WD40 and leave for tomorrow.... and hope everything will fit back together until then.... (y)

I haven't changed an alternator on mine, but mention has been made by others that removing the dipstick tube from the sump makes life a lot easier. Have you done that?

Btw, looking at the title of this thread, are you sure you're not driving the new Red Bull Renault F1? :D

(y) It was on my agenda.... I followed the steps on the other thread ( https://www.fiatforum.com/multipla/229971-replacing-alternator-jtd-115-a.html ) only I thought I would make sure I could get the alternator off first just so I wouldn't have taken all those other bits off first if I couldn't .... yes I am lazy lol
