Hello Folks,

I have posted elsewhere about my troubles with the clutch/changing gear which I thought I'd sorted with help from people on this forum.

Thread: https://www.fiatforum.com/multipla/...ighlight=Fiat+Multipla+JTD+unable+gear+change

For the last few days, stiffness/resistance trying to get into gear had returned just slightly. My thought was to bleed the clutch at some point. However, Yesterday when I arrived home after a short trip from work, I was unable to select any gear to park the car properly in front of the house, and while the engine was running, there was a strong sweet burning smell coming from the front of the car, and a metallic rattling noise when I pressed the clutch pedal. Also the clutch pedal felt easier to press down than usual. I know that with a car when you hear and smell something you don't normally, then something's wrong!

Thinking, and hoping, it would be something relatively cheap to fix -like the clutch master or slave cylinder- I got prices for both from the local motor factor, and then set about bleeding the clutch. Did that to no noticeable effect, and stuck my head under the bonnet to check where the rattling noise and smell were coming from. I then noticed the square inspection port above the clutch discs and something shiny just inside the inspection port standing out against the dull brown of the clutch discs. There was another shiny bit of metal on the surface of the housing near the edge of the port -looked like a piece of circlip maybe. I fetched some tweezers and grabbed the metal thing inside the clutch housing. Here it is:

<Sorry, for pic see first reply below >

Anybody recognise if this is a piece of the clutch assembly? Has something broken to pieces inside the clutch?

I also found 4 or 5 dirty, grease-covered ball bearings on the ground under the gearbox/clutch. Don't know where they came from or how long they've been there...?

Could the piece of metal and ball bearings have come from the clutch release bearing?

If the clutch has gone, I'm knackered, no way I can afford to replace it at the moment.

Any information appreciated.

Mark

Looks like part of the release bearing...
That was the part to fail on mine...however the clutch plate was well worn aswell...
Not overly expensive for just clutch and release bearing...its the dmf that bumps the price up
