Technical Tyre sizes, how wide can I go?

One might perhaps expect an eBay seller to claim they have genuine “Alfa” wheels. Whereas in a reversal of that scenario, the buyer would have us believe she’s bought “Alfa” wheels – when the seller actually made it clear they’re not.

It was less about them being "Alfa" wheels than the fact they came off an Alfa on the list of compatible vehicles, so would fit my Multi perfectly and even more importantly exactly what I had in mind when I started thinking about "new" wheels.

I think (as they say) some of what you say is true – you got what you had in mind. But throwing in words like `compatible’ or `perfect’ in an attempt to justify your decision making doesn’t fit too well with parts that don’t fit without modification.

What do you mean? They came off a car that was compatible and fit on my car with no need for me to modify anything, so what's wrong with that?

Thanks for your interesting comments.
I’m sure some will be taken-in by the spin you put on it.
What is your problem with honest disclosure?

Well I think your wheels are lovely.

Maybe they’ll have another set – more chance of fitting a Renault than a FIAT … without modification.

Borbet 17” Alloy Wheels 4x100 – will fit Fiat/Alfa (4x98) BLACK POWDER COAT!
Borbet C Alloy Wheels. Were powder coated black last year but a women driver has had hold of them and they have been kerbed (as pictured). Also missing 1 centre cap.
These have come off an Alfa Romeo 146 which has the fitment of 4x98. Spigot rings will come with it to fit Fiat/Alfa and I can provide a full set of wobble bolts at an extra cost. These will fit 155, 145, 146, GTV, Mito and anything else that comes in the 4 stud pattern.
Speedline stickers were stuck on to match the car and the fact Alfa alloys are made by speedline.

I'd imagine it would be the same as for the 15" wheels, at 43mm.
Some sites quote a range of offsets for the whole range of models and years, such as 35mm to 45mm.
Best bet would be to ring/e-mail a few Alloy suppliers and ask.

If you're keeping the overall tyre diameter the same (using lower-profile tyres), then an offset range of 10mm isn't going to matter.

Factory Fiat 17" Alloys are 7J X 17". ET35

No, just an airplane expert/Tyre guru involvement it seems.

No not at all, but then you know that – & most will see it for what it is.
An attempt to throw-in misinformation to steer comments away from the wheel target ;)
In all your excitement I suppose we’ve more chance of being struck-by-lightning than you finding the wheel task.

Thanks for sticking your head above the parapet given your judgement & decision making record.
Very amusing.

Now you've really lost me :p

Sorry to lose you, given your obvious tech knowledge & skill.
But then I can see abstaining is perhaps the smart move when caught between the lady’s view & the truth.
I guess in MRO quality circles this would come under `improper installation due to (female) economic pressure’ ;)

I was interested in the chances of this fitment being signed-off from an `inspect & certify’ angle.
