I think I am getting a humming/droning from the rear of the car.
I say 'I think' because maybe I am just getting used to the car, anyway it doesn't change or go away when I corner. Could it still be wheel bearings?
Are Multi's generally quiet?
It does it in neutral engine on or off.

Sounds like wheel bearings to me from what you have said. i've only had experience with the wheel bearings going in my old hyundai and it was exactly the same issues.

I cant imagine what else it could possibly be, the syptoms all point to wheel bearings. But maybe some actual multipla owners can throw in their opinions

Is the noise different going round corners/roundabouts? If one rear bearing is worn then it will make more or less noise when loaded/unloaded going round corners. Pretty unlucky if both bearings gone at exactly the same time I think.

My rear one was noising and it was doing exactly this when the car was loaded /unloaded ... Jack up the car and shake the wheel
Marty.

I do have winter tyres on at the mo', I'll see if I can swap them with some summer ones to try. Thanks for the responses.

I went and got a pair of wheel bearings today from my local motor factor..

Worked out to about 56 quid for the pair, not too bad.

Just be really careful not to damage the ABS sensor whilst removing.
With mine i used a pullers to remove the bearing however the bearing inner sleeve was left behind on the axle...had to wedge large screwdriver/chisel behind it to get it moving..also had heat on it but as i said its easy damage the sensor so be real careful!!

Thanks for the heads up, I'll wait until my mate has some free time with his lift.

It's easier when it's at face height.

Done them this morning, real easy job, about 15mins per wheel.
Brake shoes were shagged so I replaced them as well (20 quid)
Everything is now lovely and quiet.

Just noticed a headlight bulb has blown tho' :bang:

One side came off in one piece, the other left the inner race behind, but came off real easy with a screwdriver.
I did have a puller to hand, but didn't need it.
Makes a change for something to go this easy for me, believe me.

:)

32mm, not hard at all.

The new nuts didn't want to go on easy, so I re-used the old ones.

;)

I was always told u should never use the same nut due to them coming loose over time and the movement kills the bearing all over again

Hi, does anyone have any experience replacing a front wheel bearing? Is it the same as doing a rear one ( i have managed to do this myself, with a new bearing and hub kit). Or is the replacement more difficult?
