If the dodgy wiring is there to mask an actuator fault, logic suggests that the fault is with the actuator.
If your car is returning decent mileage and power with the iffy wiring, you can either reverse engineer whatever they did to get round the problem, and then resolve the problem.
However, for them the problem was sufficiently expensive or time-consuming that they decided to hack the wiring.
Rock and a hard place, I don't like unresolved issues but there again I don't like spending a £100 to save £90.
