Was intending to fit my own mp3 stereo from purchase of multi even have facia surround, but now have been kicked up the butt to do it prompted by battery drain issue. Should it be just straight forward swap. Or will there likely be a ecu fault reading thrown up. Just checking before I create myself some agro lol.
Any advice welcome

Thanks. lee

Couple of things to bear in mind, you may need a adapter to connect to the Fiat audio plug and another adapter for the aerial depending on the head unit.

Also if you have steering wheel controls, you'll either lose them or have to get a head unit which supports external controls and yet another adapter!

Ok thanks a lot. Also, if I just disconnect stereo for time being. Will it throw up an error. Thanks. lee

As far as I'm aware stereo doesn't throw any errors if disconnected. (It's not exactly a state of the art multi-function screen model!).
FWIW, OE speakers are surprisingly good. When I changed mine, I was expecting to replace the front door speakers at least but was pleasantly surprised at how good the
sound was.

Anyway it's a Multi, so just turn the volume up (some more!)

Am going to be doing the same to my recently purchased Multipla in the next few days mate. When I got it I thought the sound was awful and then I realised that the previous owner had little or no Bass coming through at all and after sorting that I thought the unit was pretty decent, right until I went on a long journey this week and had the CD player on, just running over a Cats Eye on the motorway makes the CD jump, it's got to go!!!

Even a well packed HU will jump on a multi. I think its due to the angle at which it sits unfortunately.
Word of warning, if you burn your own disks do NOT go for cheap ones. They jump like buggary.

I've got a cheapie Sendai unit which isn't perfect but it is a lot better than the original Fiat offering.
SD card and USB ports which make the CD slot somewhat superfluous and they never jump!

Seriously though, check the front dampers as if these are on the way out, the ride can feel very cart like.

I've got a jvc and despite some serious cage fettling and packing it skips and jumps like buggary.

Perhaps digital is the way forward. Lol.

I want a flip front jobbbie but haven't got round to it lol

Has the JVC got Bluetooth? I've used this as well although the quality is understandably less than SD or USB.

BTW The radio reception won't improve, the aerial is carp. I ended up putting an internal windscreen aerial in which although not great is better than the original POS.

I like the look of the oem head unit (aftermarket ones just don't do Fisher Price), so I put a Pure Highway DAB in the drivers glovebox and connected it to the head unit via the mini ISO input for a CD changer. The Highway has an aux in that can cope with MP3 players (including my phone) with a standard small headphone jack. That sorted me for a DAB radio (and my beloved BBC 5live) and music and I keep the original look and steering wheel controls.

MP3's don't jump!

Leather gear knob (now very well worn) and steering wheel audio controls (which are much nicer to use than the Ford ones because they illuminate) were optional extras.

When mine was built (2004), the Multipla options list was a short one. Metallic paint, centre/front fridge, CD player, CD changer, leather gear knob, steering wheel audio controls. The ELX was well equiped as standard though.

Holy cow... That is flash.
The fridge would be better in the back imo, as I like having 3 front seats.
May well go on the hunt for a few of these bits myself.....

Aye the Black Barge isn't bad... Better than most new cars imo... Elec everything, 2xsunroof, aircon, cd player, player, player, player...

So I picked up a Kenwood head unit with Steering Control Unit adaptor from these guys http://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/ they delivered it to the house and I got fitted up no probs. The head unit I chose had DAB but I need to install the window aerial for it (This came with the kit) which I'll do later. For now I've been out on a country back road and there's no skipping at all on a normal home made audio CD and an MP3 CD as well, and believe me I was aiming for all the bumps. The radio came as a kit with fascia and I added on the steering control box as well.
Much happier, I do like a choice of music in the car. (y)

I was always going to change my stereo over as it's a mp3 (disc) player. I noticed the shocking jumping of cd over slightest of bumps. Also noticed how hot the stereo got. Ejected cd's where very hot indeed. When I pulled the FFunit on sunday (weather hot here in uk) The unit, which had not been on, was very hot. Not possible to be from sun under the dash, and I guess part of the fault that was causing my power drain.
I think the angle the stereo recess sits is the culprit for cd's skipping. I will put mine in and see what happens. I can see me putting multi one back in as dummy and fitting mine up in drivers dash box!
