Today I took my dad's Multipla for a drive.. but suddently when I pushed the clutch, the RPM's went up. For example when you drive 100 in 5th gear, push the clutch and it will go from 3000 to 4000 to 5000.. untill you drop the clutch.

At first I thought I was pushing the gas with my right foot, but I stopped to check it out, I turned of the car, turned it on again in neutral, and the RPM was 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000 and I turned it off again. The engine was cold.. I drove 15 kilometers and it kept doing it, normally when I slow down I push the clutch but now I had to brake, and shift down very quickly.

When I went back, I checked the gas pedal before leaving and I pulled it up, I don't know if this has anything to do with the problem but the car was acting normal again..

My dad isn't in The Netherlands at the moment, I'll tell him when he is back.. but I was wondering, does anybody know about this problem? Is it electrical or mechenical problems?

Thanks!!

P.s. I didn't let it go past the 5000 point, don't want to harm the engine, it was cold (like 1 or 2 bars on the display).

I was reading about the turbocharger and I was like.. uh.. turbo?

I think I forgot to mention it's a 1.6 petrol, not a diesel.

There was no smoke, if the car would have smoked noticably I'd have stopped, as far as I know a smoking petrol engine / exhaust is .. not very good..
