Hello. Just convinced my wife a Multipla was the way forward and got one 2 weeks ago. I'd been after one for a while but she needed convincing due to the "individual" styling.
But she's chuffed to bits with it and so am I. Its a well looked after, FFSH, 1 owner low mileage car and after giving it a good service of all the basics, I'm in the process of starting to fix a couple of niggling bitty faults.
I fixed the front interior light pod last weekend (usual sticking of switches, dodgy connections etc), but I still can't get the interior lights to switch on , when I open the nearside rear door. It also doesn't indicate on the dash as a door open so I presume the door switch isn't working.
Problem is I can't see an obvious switch in the door post etc as on older Fiats. Any ideas as to where the switch is?
ALSO..one of the mirrors (drivers side), doesn't fold in on the motors. I presume both sides are electric? Any suggestions? is the mirror easy enough to get off so I can check the cabling/connections etc. By the way, the mirror glass movement is working fine, its just the folding in operation that doesn't work
Your help would be apprecited :)

think you'll find the 'pin switch' is in the door lock mechanism itself.

easiest thing to try first would be disconnect the nearside rear door loom at the connector, check for water ingress, spray with contact cleaner, tighten the female terminals, see if that fixes it.

if not i would then be looking at stripping the door card off and same procedure as above for the connections to the door lock mechanism.

the mirrors can be buggers, my old multi used to do lots of random stuff. pull off the triangular shaped trim, connectors right in front of you, same procedure as above. if not, work the mirror switch fold/unfold/fold etc, and while youre doing that manually fold the mirror in and out. you might find it'll pick up on the motor and regain its memory as such.

once youve got them working try and get into the habit of folding them everytime you leave the car and then they dont generally tend to play up.

Thanks Matt, thats good advice, I'll try those tips. I'm not bad on the electrical stuff as I'm a spark by trade, but I'm always hesitant removing trim as it can break/distort easily. Always better to ask folk if they know the right way to get them off. Door cards don't look too bad to remove, suppose the fact they are quite a utilitarian vehicle means they're not as bothered about disguising every trim fixing for neatness and then being an absolute nightmare to get off. Had tons of Fiats over the last 26 years so used to the fragile nature of the electrics, but I keep coming back for more. Sold my wifes Marea Weekend 115 ELX , 12 months ago basically because I got an offer I couldn't refuse from a friend of a friend. She ran a cheap Nissan Primera (dull as ditchwater but 100% relable) over winter , then a really nice 1995 E280 Merc over summer, but I felt like it was time for another Fiat, hence the Multi. Found a pearlescent yellow/gold one too which was a bonus cos you sure don't loose them on car-parks:D

Re: The mirror, it might be worth checking if the one in question has been replaced with a non-folding variant. They are a doddle to remove anyway, but if you pull off the inside plastic trim as matt says I think you can then see the white loom connector. A folding drivers side mirror will have seven wires (nine if it's got the external temperature sensor in it as well).

If it IS shot, shop4parts have got new folding ones at a good price at the moment.

If you need to replace a door mirror try this link http://www.wingmirrorman.co.uk/multipla.html
I used them to replace a drivers side door mirror, and the part they supplied was an original, identical right down to the manufacturers stamps and part no.s. I think that they are made by lucas or someone like that.

Thanks to WideMouthFrog, I managed to get a driver's side powerfold heated mirror for £47 delivered, from Shop4parts.
My Multi has the mirror with the temp sensor for the aircon though.
I was going to cannibalise the new powerfold bits and use the old temp sensor, but it's simpler than that.
It's a simple job to dismantle the mirror (dont forget to heat the little lower mirror with a hairdryer to soften the glue pad holding it on), and disconnect the wiring connectors. I needed to use the old 9 pin connector to the car wiring, and the old temp sensor. The new mirror has the hole for the temp sensor marked in the plastic, and has the screw mounting hole there too. A few minutes carefully drilling out the hole, fix the temp sensor and old wiring connectors and voila, a new, working powerfold mirror with heated glass and temp sensor, for about half the discounted price.

Again, very helpful thanks. It also solves the mystery I had when having a play with it over the weekend........ When I pulled the 9 pin plug apart to have a probe around with a meter , I wondered why the dash read out kept saying "air-con fault". Here we go I thought, bloody Fiat electrics again (from memories of 70's 80's and to a lesser degree 90's Fiats I've owned). But if the little blob on the edge that I had wondered what it was , is the temp sender then that explains it!

Does anybody have a schematic wiring diag for the door mirrors , so I can do a few further checks (need to know what the diff colour cables go to) .

Also , how do you dismantle the mirror so I can get to the folder motor to check it???
