EGR deletion in diesel engines is considered justifiable by a wide range of people, including the environmentally conscious.

Although deleting the EGR system results in increased NOx level; hydrocarbon emissions, particulates, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide are drastically reduced. Furthermore, EGR deletion results in an increase in fuel economy as high as 25%.

Exhaust gas recirculated back into the cylinders adds wear-inducing contaminants and causes an increase engine oil acidity, which can result in an inefficient, poorly running engine. The increased level of soot also creates the need for diesel particulate filters to prevent environmental contamination.

Seems like robbing Peter to pay Paul to me!

This quote is available on just about any car forum and comes from a unconfirmed report on wikipedia...

Its an argument (or discussion) that will probably never end or be settled, hence its really up to the individual. Personally I have (and always will) renew the EGR's on both my diesel cars.

Well I've tried both cleaning / renewing on my Seat Altea diesel I had before, but that system threw codes if you blanked it completely, so that went back to a stock configuration in the end. I'm going to try this and if it does save fuel or have some tangible advantage, then I'll keep it that way, if not, it will go back to stock.
I'm happy to report back what I find. I see no point in modding just for the sake of it, only if it gives an improvement.

i cleaned my egr a couple of days ago, i do this every year and i dont know if it is good to blank that thing ,but if you clean it every year you dont need to blank it ,power is back no black smoke behind me ,(y)and if you replace that hex screws with normal screws you can get egr off in 15 min
