Hi !

I just bought a rather tired Multipla 1.6 from 1999 with 175 000km on the clock. After a full wash outside/inside and engine compartment the car looks decent and have a great potential. I'm pleased, and it was a bargain, even though it has some repairs on the list(y)

Faults:
  1. Clutch does not fully disengage. Trouble getting it in first and reverse now and then. I have bought a new clutch set and are planning to do the job myself. Could it be caused by the fingers in the clutch housing worn down ? It also have a sound when the pedal is pressed and that must be the release bearing, right ? I have seen the excellent DIY on the forum and recon the job will be almost similar on my petrol 1.6 ?
  2. Leaking inner driveshaft boot(the longes driveshaft). Does anyone have a good guide for remove/install and espesially how to attach the clips ?
  3. Airbag Light on (both red and yellow). Hopefully its just the connector under the drivers seat.... I'm planning to get a OBD scanner, but which one is capable of reading both engine and airbag codes on a 1.6 engine ?
  4. 4. Knocking Anti roll bar. Will do the bushes as soon as possible.

Some work to do but the car is great so it's worth it!!

Make sure you know the cambelt has been changed at 150K...critical

Seems like you've got the rest in hand

Enjoy the old toad

Taking the gearbox out on a 1.6 petrol is much easier than on a JTD. The easiest thing to use on driveshaft boots is cable ties. Getting steel clips tight without the special tool is impossible, cable ties only need pliers! If your release bearing is making a noise do the clutch asap as it's about to fail.

You will have to take the gearbox off when changing the clutch, then it should be no problem changing the inner CV boot. The only "special" tool I needed was to release a 36 mm nut, which releases the drive shaft.

I started to hear the bearing noise from the clutch area, after six weeks the clutch was unable to engage, and I changed it.
The bearing had then sized and the pressure plate fingers where worn badly.

Here you can find a useful guide to the clucth change:

Thanks for feedback !
Good to hear that the box in a 1.6 is easier to remove than on the JTD.
What is the advice regarding the subframe ? Is it worth a try to remove the box without dropping the subframe first ??
