new problem with my multipla. i know the rear drivers side trailing arm needs replacing/repairing as i have had some issues with the wheel leaning in and tyre rubbing etc. i currently have 17" wheels all round instead of the standard 15s, but due to the rubbing i have put the 15s back on. now there is a really nasty rubbing noise coming from the back, and after looking the tyre is no longer rubbing on the arch.....
i can only guess that there is a problem with the rear brakes sticking or something but really dont know. i did have the usual problem of the handbrake freezing when it was snowing and icy, however it has now warmed up so not sure whats causing it.
it sounds like its the wheel rubbing but on inspecting the tyre this is not the case. just wondering if anybody else has had the same problem before???

might as well use this thread to see if anybody knows where there is a guide to replacing the trailing arm??
i have found one for the punto that only shows the repair kit being used, but i have managed to get new trailing arms cheap so might as well do the whole thing. will i need any specialist tools, or will the basics do?

I too have big BOOLAH's & Alloys but I fitted cheepo spacers to stop the tyres rubbing on the inside edge catching against the plastic inner wheel / water arch.

The only other occurrence was when the HANDBRICK cable came adrift from one of it's clips, I cable tied it to test the noise while travelling - then made good the securing of the handbrake cable sheath to the underbody.

i have had another look just now and there is nothing that i can see anywhere underneath that is catching on the wheel. the handbrake cable is ok, and as far as i can see there is nothing else underneath the car that could be causing it....
i think i am gonna have to take it back to the garage and see if they can come up with anything. its definately something rubbing though, and it only seems to be when i get over about 15-20 mph.:bang::bang:

I have a rubbing noise on my rear n/s wheel. It only happens when I go round right hand bends. I suspect wheel bearing but there is no play in the wheel when i jack it up

Description indicates that the radius(swing) arm bearing has failed. Jack up without supporting the radius arm and check for movement. Also look for rub marks on the upper part of the inner wheel well.

It's easier to replace complete radius arm than just the bearing IMO.

If a wheel bearing is giving out a lot of noise, jacking the car and spinning the road wheel should induce some noise or failing that a 'Gritty feel' when turning the hub.
If there is no running on inner wheel arch perhaps it is the bearing.

does sound like your wheel bearing as your speed builds up the noise increases get it checked.
