ultipla 1.9 JTD Heater fan not working? Please help if you can Hi all, My dad's Fiat Multipla 1.9 JTD has developed a fault with the fans. At first the fans went off and you couldnt get them back then randomly they would start and just as soon as they would be there they would be gone again. Now to me this sounds like a wiring fault however we have had the car off the road with the fault for over a month now and we are still going round in circles looking for it. We have checked the fuse over and over and it is definately not that. I have read somewhere about the resistors giving a similar fault but have ruled that out as they don't start on any setting.

We have traced the wires through the cab which we have disassembled and have checked for continuity through a number of different boxes which we are unsure what they are.

The fault came about at the same time as we had to replace the right wing mirror as the thermocouple/thermometer went. (could this help?)

Does anybody have any idea what this fault is as we really don't want to take the car into the garage. Any ideas would be great. Thanks.

Matt

If you have no fan speeds at all, and you've lost the outside air temp display totally (no dashes or symbols), remove the centre footrest/cover (four bolts in the floor, plus 3 phillips screws).
Under there you'll find a multi-pin plug, it has 5 wires on one side, and seven on the other (so basically has 2 non-used wires).
Try moving the wires (pushing/wiggling) with the ignition and fan switch on.
On mine, this caused the fan to cut in/out.
I just cut all the wires and crimped them all together (leaving the two 'spare' ones free), the larger earth and power wires I connected with a screw terminal block.
There's no real need to have a connector there.
Be aware though, a couple of the wires on mine change colour at the plug, so do one pair at a time.

It's working Fine now.

Thank you for the description and photo. I had same problem and this helped me fix it.

Symptoms:
No fan at all, no temperature readout on dashboard LCD, no lights on fan controls. It all went off after we had three people in the front (wiring probably got kicked)

Fix:
I didn't have to take the cover off, the wiring block was sticking out out to the left of the cover. I identified it as it had 5 wires one side and 7 the other as described. I opened up the wiring block (no idea if there is an easy way, I basically snipped it to bits with some pincers until I could unplug the two halves) one pin was blackened and the plastic a bit melted. I cleaned the contact up with a bit of wire wool plugged them together and it works.

Thanks Lon
Ive spent 4 hours trying to sort this out, after reading your reply to this post it took me 2 minutes.cheers.:)

In my search on the internet for Multipla fan problems I found this thread. I seem to have the same problem as you described. Hopefully I can fix it now but there is one problem: I can't find the multi-plug with 5 wires on one side and 7 on the other (I have a 6 and 7 though). Unfortunately your photo of the connector isn't there anymore. Do you still have it and could you please post it again or send it to me? Would be a great help!

It's the connector under the Middle Seat's Footrest.
This is the only Photo I have I'm afraid, managed to rescue it from the Devil's Spawn (Photobucket) . . .

Basically, just cut the Wires and Solder/Splice them together.
The two on the left are 'spare'.
Check which colours go to which, as I recall there was one or two that change colours at the Plug.
