I have just had my 1.6 Multipla 2001 in the garage to get the timing belt done, had no history when I bought it and had done 77k so it seemed prudent. However, I am now getting an intermittent fault that says there is an engine management fault and the revs seem to "flatline" when pushed, lacks power basically. However out of gear the revs will go as high as I push it.

Anyone got any ideas of easy checks or is it back to the garage to spend more hard earned dosh? we're not all bankers some of us have to work for a living

Any advice appreciated...

mine is currently doing the same thing, just running really badly with no power. there are no engine lights coming on with mine though. im guessing its something to do with either the plugs or leads so will get them changed today and see what happens.........:(

Thanks guys appreciated, my plan is to check (thanks for the link joipalli) then change the spark plugs and then if it persists (which it will ;-)) I will take it down to Fiat's super computer to get plugged in. Just scared at what they might find, doesn't owe me much but I am quite attached now.

i know the feeling.... great car but i have only just got it back from the garage when the clutch and gearbox went. lets just say the mrs is now getting nothing for xmas :)

just a quick update....
i got new plugs and leads, put the leads on and it was fine :) changed the plugs anyway as im not sure when they were last done... £32 for both so not too bad(y)

Well that is this weekends task, I haven't got the leads yet but I will. Worth a go before the dreaded machine.....
