Posts: 68 Thanks: 3 Trader Rating: 0 | Re: multipla help needed I've had my multipla for nearly 18 months, I really like it, I do my own work on it, I've replaced the front brake pads and rear brake shoes and drums, last week I replaced the cambelt, all stuff that needs doing anyway at some time. Mine's a 53 reg jtd (diesel) 115, the numbers refer to the horsepower and seem to increase with newer models.

They're a biggish old bus but to be honest once you're driving it, it doesn't seem that big. The beauty of it is it's only very short, not like a Galaxy or Sharan. If you buy one make sure you get evidence of cambelt changes etc. They should be done at 72000 miles but to me and a lot of other people that seems to be stretching it. The 115 (bhp) is reasonably pokey bearing in mind it's shaped a bit like a brick. The ELX models have twin sun roofs and aircon. One thing that does seem to be fairly common across the range is the low clutch bite. I was a bit worried about mine at first but soon got used to it. The high driving position is nice as well. See if you can get a test drive in one I bet you'll like it. Don't go for the first one you see though, shop about and see what you get for your money. I saw a couple of nails before I got the one I wanted. Good Luck.

Posts: 765 Thanks: 45 Trader Rating: 0 | Re: multipla help needed The worst jobs to do are: 1 gearbox , check for fluid leaking under the gearbox if poss get it on a ramp while you test drive it. 2 rear trailing arms , get behind it and make sure the rear wheels are not tilting inwards at the top as it can be costly. 3 nocking at the rear could be the bushes where the rear subframe mounts which are not available without the subframe (£500).4 clutch/dmf (dual mass flywheel) this again can be costly if your paying someone to do it i reckon your talking £200 to do the work and about £300 in parts (double that if you go to fiat). 5 turbo , mine is just approaching 100 thousand miles and is ok but it is letting some oil past it (£450?) 6 Knocking at the front, not so bad once you get over the shock of the roll bar £110 (if required) as most of the time it will be the droplinks which are about £30 and wishbones which can be had for about £30 each side. These are prob the most common that pop up here but remember this is a small community and people only seek out these forums when something goes wrong so dont let my list scare you off .I think the Multipla is a crackin car and couldnt think about replacing it with anything else so the smiles per miles are worth it.
