If I recall, the level plug is accessible from the passenger side wheel arch, so removing the wheel means you get better access of course.
You got problems or is it just a check? :)

think i may have probs. it whines big style in 4th gear but not in any other. been told to check out just to rule it out. if not expecting thrust bearings??????

hello

when i check the gear box oil is there a dipstick like the engine oil??

There's no dip stick for the gearbox.
There is a drain plug and a level plug on the side of the gear box.
Drain plug is the lowest one obviously as it lets all the oil out for when changing all the oil.
Level plug is towards the middle/top of the gearbox. This is the one that you use to check the fill level.
The car MUST be on a totally level surface to do this.
With the level plug removed (one or two drips of oil will come out so make sure you have a tray underneath to catch it) add more oil of the correct type until oil starts to trickle steadily out the fill level, then stop adding oil and wait till the trickle turns to a drip or two and replace the plug.
Then it's at the correct level. :)

dont suppos u have a pic or diagram do u of where the plugs at

This is NOT the multipla gearbox but a pic that I found that shows how most gearboxes are, so will give you the right idea of what is where. If I get chance I'll take a pic of my multipla gearbox for you so you know exactly, but I don't have alot of time what with work sorry :(

is it easily accesible to fill up the oil with car on ground i presume i will have to take the wheel and liner etc off? how do i go about emptying and refilling?

how many litres does the gearbox hold ( so i know what size of container to cath old fluid in ).

and is it just a case of drain then refill.

The gearbox oil is not cheap, think it takes 2lts and cost me £24.The drain plug is easy to get on if you just use a hexagon bit and undo with a spanner has space is tight.Just drain into a old washing bowl,or use the other halfs and clean it.:D

Hi - apologies for being dim, but is the plug to the left of the electrical connection pictured above the drain plug or the level plug - there's a larger allen plug visible above the smaller plug and the electrical connector which is confusing me.

Any help would be appreciated!
