Hi everyone, this is my first post so I'm hoping it works lol.
I've recently become the proud owner of a Multipla JTD but have noticed this strange knocking noise which, after looking on here, seems to point to it being the ARB bushes but I haven't had chance to look yet. However, I also get a funny "speed wobble" on the wheels at the 56-60mph range but I know it's not the wheels themselves as it did it before and after I had new tyres fitted and balanced.
Does anyone know, would this be another symptom of this ARB bush or bushes?
Can someone also post a step by step of how to fit these bushes too please as I'm thinking of getting a pair from Ebay if it looks like they're worn.
Phew! Sorry for all the request on just my first visit.

All the best,
Simon.

Wobble: check the balljoint on the lower suspension arm (where the brake casting/hub unit/wheel carrier fits to the lower suspension) -- prone to falling apart. Jack teh car and support is, then try prying the lower arm down away from the hub. it shouldn't move. If the balljoint's collapsed, you'll see them part from each other.

Bushes - generally considered not to be replaceable. (The drop links are, but the bushes on the antiroll bar are an integral part, 'cast' around the bar.)

On the way to Center Parcs my Multi developed a 'speed wobble' on the motorway.

Turned out to be the front n/s lower wishbone bush. It had lost the steel insert in the bush allowing the n/s wheel to move about half to three-quarters of an inch from side to side. So, new wishbone fitted and problem cured.

But now I can hear a slight clatter from I think the drop links - they didn't do this before! I've just bought a pair and I'll fit them this week.

Hope the disease doesn't spread to the anti-roll bar bushes...

Just change the droplinks Zundapp, I drove on knackered droplinks for 3 months with no damage to the bushes or roll bar :-D

I changed the drop links this afternoon and it's certainly got rid of a few rattles.

Now I can hear my grumbling o/s rear wheel bearing really clearly now! :)

Hi all I have a strange knocing noise when travelling over uneven ground (most town roads these days, the state of our roads is appalling, alas this is a differnt matter).

Anyway, the only bush, I know about is the green one in my garden.

I want to tackle this myself, so can someone, explain with step by step instructions and pictures as to how to tackle (please explain like you was explaining to a 5 year old).

I am ok with my hands but need your knowledge to explain, and I bet I aint the only one who couold benefit from your explanation.

How do you get the old droplinks off? There's only one nut and nothing to stop the whole lot turning once it's started to loosen? Am I being stupid here?

I agree with this. I'd love a step by step too as this problem seems to happen all the time by the looks of things.

There are 2 patterns of droplink: one type has flats to get a (14mm ?) spanner on to stop the nut rotating, the other has a recess for a hex key to do the same thing.

Mine has what looks like a cover on the back? Will the recess for the hex key be underneath do you think? I don't want to start prising stuff off and then can't get it off and be stuck with an even worse droplink

NO! That cover is not meant to be removed- I think it's to keep lubricant in the joint. The hex key hole is at the opposite side, on the end of the threaded part with the retaining nut on. If you can't see it with the nut in place, it means your droplinks don't have the hex key hole. Yours will have the flats, on the other side of the antirollbar, where the cover is.
