When I traded my uglybug, Bella, I decided to remove anything of value, as you do. This included my genuine Fiat mats which I had bought when I got the car.

The problem with them was that the drivers side part of the front mat was particularly worn on the stitched 'pad' part that your feet rest on when they're not on the pedals. My 'pad' was actually worn through to the mat underneath. Not only did this look unsightly, but there was already some heel wear on that underneath mat.

So, thinking that I'd better remove the 'pad' I armed myself with me mum's kitchen scissors and was preparing to snip the stitching around the 'pad'. I was therefore pleasantly surprised when grabbing a lifted edge of the 'pad' to find that it actually only glued on to the mat, not stitched.

This enabled me to simply ease the' pad' from the mat and use it as a template to cut a new 'pad' from a rubber mat, which I simply glued into place again. Not sure how hard wearing a rubber one will be but we'll see.

I point this out because I expect a number of you have worn 'pads' (can't think of a better word, sorry....) and you may not realise what a simple execise it is to rip the 'pad' off and cut a new one from something, thus protecting the mat from wear and heel damage.

Hope this proves to be a useful tip, folks.

I've attached some pics to clarify what I'm on about! (I promise I do actually have all the fingers on my left hand......)
