Has anybody changed the front discs on thier Multipla and if so what tools would i need for the job? It's a 1.9 jtd 115 bhp sx. I'm mostly interested in the socket size for the big hub nut and the torque setting for this nut as well.
Any help would be gratefully apreciated.

Hub nut doesn't need to come off.

Remove the wheel (obviously!) and you'll see two metal 'studs' on the disc (that are there to help align the wheel when you put it back on). Unscrew these using a socket (12mm I think). These are what holds the disc in place. You also need to remove the caliper. Disc more than likely will be rusted to the hub flange - large, but soft, hammer does the trick. IF in doubt, get someone else to do it for you -- your life might depend on it.

I did mine, it was simple and exactly the same process as on the only other car I've done it on ( a Mondeo).

The discs weren't seized on tooooooo badly but they did require a bit of a bash, I just used a normal hammer.

The best way to get the piston back into each calipers (assuming you're changing the pads as well) is to use a small G-clamp. You will be unable to squeeze them back in by hand.

All in all an easy job for even a fairly incompetent home mechanic like myself - and a great sense of satisfaction in saving a load of dosh.:)

I dont know if you had a go at this yet but its an easy job. I've just done my stilo and about to do my multipla. just remember to "LEAVE the big hub nut alone" its not holding the disc on just the two little pins as mentioned before.
The toughest part of this job is undoing the nuts holding the caliper mount on. they will be on very tight and seem to be tough to undo all the way. I had to use a pipe over my socket wrench to get extra leverage and I also managed to break the wrench in the process. Luckily I had a spare.

I found this post helpful https://www.fiatforum.com/stilo/149656-fitting-mintex-front-pads-discs.html

and these videos are great if you havent doen it before

Good luck

the bolts holding the caliper mount on have thread lock on thats why they are tight, you should get a tube of it, clean the thread and re thread lock when putting it back on.
don't forget new disks are covered in oil you must clean this off with brake cleaner or meths before fitting.
if you buy red dot disks and pads on a fiat forum rolling road day not only will you get discount you get free fitting too

You also need to leave the cap off the fluid resovour to push the pistons back to remove the calipers , be prepared for the fluid to overflow the tank by putting a couple of rags around it.

Thanks for all the advice. The jobs done now and it was a nice easy job with no hitches apart from the monsoon rain that came on half way through.
The only other discs i had helped to change were a Landrover Discoveries and that involved taking the hubs to bits , but the Multipla discs were easy to https://www.fiatforum.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
:)change in comparison.

Thanks again.
