Howday campers...
Hi there folks,.....The last time i was here i was asking information on changing a clutch!....So now im gona change the rear brakes,,,well try anyway?
So far i've sussed out the winding them clockwise and anticlockwise bit, but the new pads still dont fit!! :(...So someone ppplease, tell me ,how do i get the last few millimonsters that i need to fit the rear pads???? hmmm, anyone..:worship:

Morning....
Well its been that bleeding long since i've last been here,...i've forgotten my password....Any ideas...hmmmm

Errr....i think i used the name of "stromasud" but i cant remember the combination?
Do i have to push as well as twist maybe?
There must be some smartypants out there somewhere?....no.

I'm going to show my ignorance here as I've never worked on a multipla... :D

Does the handbrake operate the rear calipers? Is it cable operated? Might the cable be overtightened or not fully released?

Another thing: In my experience with citroen xantia it is common to get a build up of corrosion between the aluminium caliper and the steel trailing arm. This alloy corrosion makes the caliper lean over, causing uneven wear and difficulty fitting new pads. Remedy is to scrape / chisel it off and reassemble.

It would be worth having a good look for similar gremlins.

Hi andmc...and everyone else.
Naaa ,fraid not folks, the caliper in question is in a vice,on a bench.
First of all I turned it clockwise, very slowly as there seemed to be a lot of internal friction? But instead of screwing it down,it came of in my hands! (not for the first time),Anyway, after an initial inspection the inner bore was filled with grit and dirt!
After a good clean out with more brake fluid, I reinserted the piston and screwed it in ant iclockwise.
This went fine , and I refitted the pads but it still wouldnt fit. It needs about 6 or 7mm to go.
So now im going back out to the shed to take a great hairy fit on that pesky caliper :bang:....wish me luck...Pete.

Howday folks...
I got it, i got it....Just put some pressure on the piston as i was turning it, and ,ta daa! Down she went.
Put it all back together and took it for a test drive.....Hmmmm, im losing pressure somewhere!!. Took the car back home and find brake fluid p****ng out of the caliper (n)
It seems i've got a bust "o" ring :bang: so ,hmmm, do i get a new ring kit from fiat, or do i just buy a caliper from ebay??? Any suggestions.

I'm suffering with rear brakes as well!

Have replaced pads, wound pistons back in, can't see any signs of fluid escaping, but the brake pedal feels like there's loads of air in the system - pedal reaches the floor.

Any suggestions!?

Thanks

John

no unusual no matter what car you're working on.
Just bleed the brakes if you have a spare tenner buy a gunson easiblead.

I'm not the only one that hates calipers then - you can see why they went back to drums on the later ones.

Last November my mate (a mechanic) helped me and we put the pistons back on the threads after they'd worked themselves off and burned off the pads in the process - they were low and needed changing anyway!)

Now I get one caliper which heats up and squeals - despite striping it down and checking it - it moves freely it still gets hot.

We're going to try changing the wheelbearing to see if that is the source of the heat/squeal.

Flipping Rear calipers - squealing was driving my missus mad so at half eleven I decided to take a look. Pads have plenty of material on them so I gave everything a quick clean with brake cleaner spray and went to refit the caliper. Would it go on? Would it hell; two hours in the freezing cold with sleet blowing across me and I finally figured a way to put pressure on the piston while winding it back in (anti-clockwise!) and letting the pressure off the fluid at the bleed nipple.

I need a drink - cheers petersink69 (and others) I owe you a pint...
