Question Multipla Clutch? Problem

Hi guys I hope you can help. Mrs Frazzel is the proud owner of a Multipla 1.6 ELX 2002 with a hefty 80,000 miles on the clock. In recent weeks the following problems have been occurring. At this point I'll let Mrs Frazzel do the rest of the talking.

Hi everyone, thanks in advance for your time, I hope you can help.

1. It started with a shudder (quite violent at times!) when pulling off. This problem has eased and has been replaced with a lack of power when pulling off or accelerating quickly.

2. When I go to pull off the biting point is very high. Once I have the biting point, it takes ages to get to a normal speed (hill starts are particularly painful!).

3. When driving along, if I put my foot down to accelerate to overtake, the engine just revs high but there's no bite/power. It's almost as though I'm accelerating with my foot on the clutch (riding the clutch).

Can anyone please diagnose what the problem might be?
I'm planning to take my kids to Cornwall in a couple of weeks and would rather do it in my lovely Multipla than on the train!

Re: Multipla Clutch? Problem

Classic symptoms of a worn out clutch. Don't drive it any more except to go to the garage. Driving it in this condition can damage the surface of the flywheel as well and that will increase the bill by about 250 quid. HTH

Thanks Missionary. Will start calling around tomorrow for quotes. Anyone any ideas on how much a new clutch on a Mutlipla will cost fitted?

Cheers

Re: Multipla Clutch? Problem

I think it depends if you go to a place that has done it before !

I have heard a low price of 375 and stealers charge much more of course.

Nationwide autocentres have a good name and they have a fixed price menu system set by head office. So I guess their price will be fair. HTH

cheers
