Big Multipla Problem

Hi . I have a huge problem with my 99 multipla 1.9JTD.
It's just been for the MOT . A few things . Nothing major that I wasnt expecting at 120k. BUT the mot guy has failed it on the rear subframe being heavily corroded.
My mechanic ( another guy ) says it is a BIG BIG job and the part is V .Expensive.Hardly even worth doing.I.E ,more than the car's worth.
Although ,he MIGHT be able to weld it IF there's enough good metal.
Last year it sailed through with not even one issue. Surely it must've been even a bit rusty then ?
Qu ???
Have any of you heard of this ?
Is it a common fault?
Can anyone help?
Does anyone know of a specialist breaker or do any of you lot have a scrapper i could raid.?

Any help /advice please.

Oh ,and get under yours ,sharpish .

Re: Big Multipla Problem

Thanks Emm. I've Emailed the ebay guy . He might have one kicking around.
I've got my fingers crossed that the mechanic can weld it ,but it being a big structural bit thats a bit worrying. We'll see.Mind you ,if they can weld ocean liners.....

Re: Big Multipla Problem

I was quite suprised by the amount of surface corrosion underneath my multi and it's an 03. I think I'll definately be getting the waxoil out now after reading this!
