Re: Tow Bar fitted

I've used both my Multis for towing both a bike trailer and a 13 foot caravan and they've been pretty good as a tug. The short rear overhang is actually ideal for towing as it reduces the possibility of any sway - however I use an anti-sway thing anyway.

As to whether a second hand Multi is less desirable if it has a tow bar fitted, this probably mostly depends on the prejudices of the prospective new owner. I wouldn't be too keen if it had been towing a horse box, (which would likely be beyond its capabilities anyway), but towing a caravan or trailer a few times a year wouldn't discourage me at all.

Plus, if you get one with a towbar, it allows you to fit probably the safest type of cycle carrier available.

Re: Tow Bar fitted

Maybe it belonged to someone like me, who had the towbar fitted specifically to let me put a bike carrier on it? The Multipla diesel was voted Tow Car of the Year at least once, and I have subsequently pulled a large trailer on mine and can say that, yes, it does make a good workhorse.

Bear in mind also Emm, some people fit tow bars just for protection and not necessarily for towing

Yeah sort of it helps when ypu reversing and it also helps if someone drives into as it stops your car from getting damaged unless its a fast impact in which case it can actually cos more harm than good.

I think it acts as deterrent..

The big shiny ball focuses the attention from the skirt walking past to the rear end of the car ahead

I will probably fit a tow bar on my JTD multipla, I don't have a caravan, but it would be handy if I get a bike trailer, I needed to pick up a 650cc bike about a month ago from down in Yorkshire, so I removed all the seats except the driver's seat, everything went OK, because the floor is flat it was fairly easy getting the bike in and out, it is a handy thing to do if you need to move anything bulky, the air bag warning light stays on though when you have the front passenger seat out, but it's only a light so it's no problem.

I assume this is to tell you that the airbag is deactivated

Re: Tow Bar fitted

Air bag light comes on to let you know that there is a fault in the circuit, it will still be active.

So why would there be a fault in the circuit from the seat being removed? Or does the seat have a thorax airbag built into it?

Re: Tow Bar fitted

I think there's a weight sensor in the seat to change how the airbag on the dash deploys so taking the seat out means disconnecting it ... and then the light on the dash goes on.
