| rubber strips in the roof bars? I have now unpacked my OEM roof bars and they are OK except there is a large channel in them that cries out for a rubber strip to be inserted. So should there be something like that in there? (Its a recently bought 2002 ELX JTD) TIA mish

| Re: rubber strips in the roof bars? So, 18 people have viewed this but no one has given me an answer. Does that mean that 18 non Multi owners have read the post? aaaaargh mish

| Re: rubber strips in the roof bars? Thanks CU, nice to know someone is reading the posts. But I think I read elsewhere that your car is new and for it the OEM is now Thule. I did write in the post that mine is a 2002, and at that time - as I think you are aware - they fitted an own branded aluminium bar with oval rubber feet. Though I think yours will be somewhat more resilient ! cheers mish

| Re: rubber strips in the roof bars? Do yours look like this? They were a pair i was watching on ebay last week (ended at £72, to much for me!). These seem to have a strip inset in the top. Cant seem to enlarge the picture

| Re: rubber strips in the roof bars? Thanks Tiny and Rolo You are right it appears to have a strip in there. I have now followed a contact who might have just the strips for sale - it makes sense to have them. That was a high price on ebay for some, but I guess they are stylish and are just right for the job, though possibly weak in the middle. Try Cooks Motor Spares in Chesham Bucks (have a good website). Also direct4x4.co.uk. Both firms have cheapo roof bars right through to very smart ones. Cooks in particular are very knowledgeable and quite entertaining when you call-in to their shop. Rolo, no offence meant but from all the multis I have looked at in my quest for one, perhaps 65% had the Fiat bars fitted - in varying states of corrosion ! cheers mish

| Re: rubber strips in the roof bars? Ive discovered I dont need bars anymore (although thanks for the pointers). I traded in a Galaxy for the Multipla and was worried about wether I'd be able to get Six of us (Wife,me 2 kids and in-laws)in for our forthcoming trip to the airport. I was going to get some bars and a roofbox, but thankfully tried the seats in the forward position first. Two cases on the boot floor, buggy tucked in behind the rear seats and four cases upright with room for another if I wanted! These cars are HUGE inside, im well impressed. Even with the rear seats in the forward position, I can still sit comfortably in the outer rear seats which is more than i could say for the Galaxy, and Tiny is hardly an appropriate name for me at 6'6"!

| Re: rubber strips in the roof bars? Tiny, in my rugby days I was known as 'gorilla' so I know what you mean about fitting into a car, which is why the multi was the obvious choice when giving up my beloved land cruiser 80. Now at my old age I just have teenage grandchildren, so little need for people space, need volume for a lot of clutter I carry around in my part-time job when not on mission abroad. I want roof bars to transport a ladder, 8X2 flooring sheets, skirting board and other lengths of timber. I have a trailer but using the roof bars is a lot more convenient. cheers mish
