Hello people,

Just over an hour ago I was towing my daughters Citroen ZX on a rigid link on the A90 Forfar bypass when a truck pulled out in front of me. Long story short, tail wagged the dog and I was pushed into a lamp post. Truck didn't stop but luckily there was a reliable witness who gave his details to the Police. Nobody got the trucks number but it seems pretty clear that the accident was his fault......... Relatively slow impact; no more than 35 mph but I think the car will be a write off, at least as far as the insurance company are concerned. Major damage appears to be as follows;
1). Bonnet crumpled in a V shape.
2). Front plastic `bumper' forced back and crumpled in a V shape.
3). Both front wings bent in at the front and pushed back (both front doors stiff to open).
5). Radiator pushed back and twisted sideways, but seems intact and not leaking.
6). Offside headlight unit detached and loose under bonnet.

Police attending seemed to think it will be an insurance write off. Engine still fires up; I was able to pull it off the lamp post and onto the verge, so........... What do you guys think the chances are of the damage as described, (plus the inevitable stuff not noticed) being repairable, and the vital question; what sort of cost? I've no idea of the cost of replacement body panels, but we're talking at least 4 panels plus a respray. Would a good independent garage be likely to be able to do this for less than the insurance value? The car is a year 2000 105 JTD with some 91,000 miles on the clock. Full service history and up to about an hour and a half ago, in very good condition:mad:

Crumple zone seems to have done just what it was designed to do; all glass work intact and no cabin damage but strangely, none of the airbags inflated.................... Jim.

What a bummer , just after you learned what the bungee cord were for on the seats:eek: Its prob gonna be a write off but it may well be worth buying it back and breaking it as there aint a lot of multipla's in breakers yards so parts fetch a premium.
Id not want it back after that kind of shunt but each to their own.

Har de Har. Maybe I should have used the bungee cords for towing, rather than the link bar that had a small(ish) part in the debacle:mad: I'm almost certain the insurers will write it off, the impact was hard enough to knock the offside headlight unit back into the engine bay and somehow turn it around. Shock waves do strange things; I had a small 1/4" drive socket set in the back. Most of the sockets were out, but kind of grouped together. Maybe this was caused by the bounce the car got going over the kerb before we met the street light.

Not sure about breaking it; if I get another 105 I guess this makes sense, but I hope to get either a 110 or 115. A friend brought his chipped 110 round this morning, and that thing goes like a scalded cat; very very nice:D

They are the same car with different mapping as far as i know :confused:

ill make a list of things ill buy off ya:D you allways need a spare gearbox mate.

Guess this depends on what the insurance company says; should know more this afternoon. Only problem with buying and selling off the parts is transport; I live just outside Dundee........... Meanwhile I'm looking for a replacement, preferably 110 or 115 (`cos I like having a rev counter) in metalic orange. Having driven my mate's chipped 110 I'm hooked:D

I still have trouble getting my head round the idea that re-mapping not only gives more power, it can reduce fuel consumption:confused:
