| All Hail the Woodsman | Re: Home Alloy Wheel Refurbishment/Re-Spray Good work. Wilkinsons/Wilko do basic primer/silver/lacquer spray cans for about £3.50 so a way to save a bit of money. A small tip I was given was to use knifing putty to fill scraps and scars in the wheel and sand level with wet n' dry.

| Re: Home Alloy Wheel Refurbishment/Re-Spray Hi, Thanks for the informative article, can you help with a couple of questions :- What sort of abrasive pads did you use, did you do it by hand or machine ? How do you tell when you are through the laquer coat ? Cheers Chris

| Re: Home Alloy Wheel Refurbishment/Re-Spray I, also have done this recently... Works a charm... Also did this for my XR3i and 205gti... Wheel on left is original condition, on right is complete. I chose not to laquer, as the paint i used was metallic radiator pain, and gives a good enough finish without laquer. I did however wet them back with some 2000 grit to get a smooth finish.

| Re: Home Alloy Wheel Refurbishment/Re-Spray You dont need a primer/base coat... its extra work for nothing... and also you dont really need lacquer, but it helps protect against stone chips if you do use it...

| primer helps to show up any imperfections in the alloy ,so thats one bonus ..plus it also helps the paint to stick to the wheel ...so correction you DO need primer. ![]()

Thanks: 0 Trader Rating: (0) | Re: Home Alloy Wheel Refurbishment/Re-Spray You can use a number of tecniques to cover the tyre, masking, cover with thin coat of PVA glue (it just peels off when dry) and Grease (any type of cheap grease) - if using grease - DO NOT GET ON TREAD OF TYRE! use panel wipe to remove grease residue from side wall after
