Panda (Classic) I'm Back With The Panda 750L 1991

Introduction

My Story

Hi folks, its been a while since I had a panda after selling Purple Haze the Parade and Engelbert the Sisley (to Freebo ) the former I sold because my wife was pregnant and I felt (wrongly) that I needed a bigger (and to my mind at the time safer) car for ferrying my son and wife around in.

A very short while after I sold the pandas I developed Generalised Anxiety Disorder, I have had it now for nearly 2 years and I am FINALLY starting to get better it seems. The paranoid thoughts that I was going to put my son and wife in danger in the panda were part of this in my opinion.

Selling the Parade was a huge mistake on my part (and as older forum members were know it was subsequently written off in a low speed crash by the new owner) though the Sisley is much better off with Freebo as he appreciates the 4x4's (they are not to my taste on the open road but are amazing in a field IMHO) and I have regretted it. I have not had a car for some time now partially due to my illness and partially due to the fact I have lost my job due to my illness, though as forum members will remember I am a Youtuber too.

Fast forward to last night and I was browsing the forum and I came across an ad for a 750L in Glasgow (I am in Prestwick), and it was free but had to be collected today or in 2 weeks time. Being the impatient (and obviously anxious) type, I arranged through a friend of a friend to have it collected today. It arrived at 1pm and I am utterly flabbergasted at the condition. Out of my 3 Pandas it arrived in the best condition IMHO. So I am very thankful to the seller but forgotten their forum name cos the ad has been deleted! So thanks Ian (I am sure you are reading)

Ian reported that it has an oil leak under pressure, and as far as I can tell so far the problem is the oil filter housing which would be a super easy fix :) the rear arches need cut out at the base and refabricated, though this is not a huge job to my knowledge and I have a friend who is potentially going to do that for me all being well. Aside from that as far as I can tell it just needs new seatbelts, a new passenger rear brake cluster, new door locks, the front seat cover sewed up or renewed (the rest is immaculate) and some rust spots in the usual places taken care of. And a good service just to be on the safe side!

I couldn't be happier at this point and I cant wait to share my progress on here and Youtube for you all to see :)

Cameron

Sounds just like a line from a Carry on Film.

'You can't put your pole in backwards can you dear'

Glad to hear all is well Cameron, vehicle is roadworthy.

Sending mine up to Ayrshire tomorrow for some TLC

whats needing done to yours out of interest?

Changed the spark plugs today, reattached the speedo cable (though I think a new one may be required) fitted the BNOS Parcel shelf (so cool to have a part thats been sitting around somewhere for that long, and in the original packaging!) and turned the car into a double bed which I have wanted to do for years (a video will be forthcoming)

Looks brilliant, also one of the features which attracted me to Pandas and I too (as per your facebook post) then went out and bought my own non hammock seat type Panda!

Let us know when you've spent a night in it and then we'll know if it really works. Would love to work out how to fit that sort of rear seat to my Panda but guess it'd be fairly involved... plus I'd never get one with the fabric matching my interior!

Was one of your sparkplugs getting very wet for some reason??

looks to have been at some point, it was very corroded and difficult to shift, though i cant see any obvious reason for it! it was chamber 2.

Just back to the door pocket point, given I got my MOT I'm going to get one, I messages Parts World about the fixings and they said they don't sell them (even though the listing for the pocket says see other listing!). Anyone got any ideas as to what I can use or where I can get them from?

Think SJ's explaination on the spark plug makes sense, though would be worth keeping an eye on the new one.

I bought the fixings for them early this year/late last year so they definitely did sell them. I'd ask again and mention the listing description and mention that others obtained them from Partsworld before as well.

They're 4 red plugs with small holes in for the screw to grip into. The plugs fit where the black blanking caps go in the door where the pocket normally is at the front at the bottom. Put door pocket on and screw into plugs. You can probably find something else that may work to be honest, but they were only £1-2 from themselves!

I've messaged them again to be sure and asked if they no longer stock them can I have a part no. I've not actually looked, the red plugs might be in the dor still if the car has ever had one fitted, which it may have done given it was once intended as a parts car bits may have been removed (like the fire badge on the back).

I guess if I can't get the correct fixings I'll have to work something out as a door pocket would be very usefull!

wonder how easy they would be to remove from a parts car?

This is what I'm wondering, if it ever had a door pocket that got taken off it, would anyone bother trying to get the clips out! Will have a look before getting the chassis number for Partsworld. Would be mighty handy if they were there.

Brilliant thanks (y). Reminds me do you know if that fan belt is a match for you?

found them in italy and india but they wont deliver to uk grr

i will keep looking

I had a look just now, mine is the V teeth type belt?

Certainly sounds like the one, I'll check the details and PM them across to you.

Bet there are some trim standard trim clips of some descrpition that'll do the job, once I've had a look at the car I might do some research on that. May well buy the door pocket for the time being anyhow.
