I remember seeing an advertisement few months ago of a (I think) 2005 Mk2b 1.3 Mjet that supposedly had a 6 speed manual gearbox according to the advertiser. As far as I know, only the Sporting Puntos had a 6 speed manual gearbox, but I may be wrong, so I wanna ask here: was this car ever sold with the 1.3 Mjet engine (51 kW version) and a 6 speed manual gearbox? And was it ever sold with any other gearbox besides the 5 speed manual one?

I believe they are sold with a 5speed box for the mk2b's
The only cars that got the 6 speed were 1.2 16v and 1.4 16v's

Even the 1.8 16v HGT got a 5speed

Ziggy

Yep I thought so.

came 5 speed only
maybe it had a grande gearbox fitted?
5 speed box is best anyway for longevity

Probably the info about the gearbox in the ad was wrong and I can't remember if there was any picture from the interior of that car. The 5 speed box is indeed more durable, but it's downside is that the engine runs at 2800 rpm at 120 km/h in 5th gear. The Grande Puntos 1.3 Mjet with a 6 speed box have 500 rpm less in 6th gear at the same speed, which is better for highway driving.

maybe 1.3 diesel gearbox is same as petrol one, its possible they switched gearbox, clutch, flywheel, gearknob...
driveshafts could be different too

It's not the same gearbox, the petrol box can't handle the extra torque of the diesel. Also, the petrol Mk2 Puntos (1.2 8v, 1.2 16v, 1.4 16v) with a 5 speed box have 3300 rpm at 120 km/h in 5th gear, while the 1.3 Mjet has 2800 rpm.

5 speed only, but there are a few rare autos knocking about. Not the same gearbox as petrol as the diesel has more torque a lower power band and revs a lot lower

Yep, there are some Mk2b 1.3 Mjet's with the Dualogic gearbox, although they are pretty rare. But the Dualogic in the Mk2 Puntos is also a 5 speed box.

Driving my daughters 05 Punto CL to its MOT I automatically put it into 6th (I have a 6 speed Mini) - which was weird as it's only got 5 speeds on the gear knob and she had only ever driven up to 5th. Any how, she's now getting additional miles to the gallon and loving her six speed. I can only think that at some stage someone has fitted a six speed out of a scrap Sporting Punto.
