Panda (Classic) 1993 Fiat Panda Fizz "Pandino"

Introduction

Hey everyone, let me introduce you to my first car! :)

The car is a 1993 Fiat Panda Fizz, 999cc engine with fuel injection, only 26,000 miles at the time of buying. Nicknamed "Pandino" by the previous owner, and I'll make sure that name sticks! :D

Pictures are compulsory of course, so I've attached some of my first images that I've taken of the car. You'll likely find various other pictures in this thread when I get some things done to it! I attached the pictures to this post and I've uploaded one to the gallery so that I can have this one embedded!

*Following list is from original post, more has been done since, read thread for more*
What have I done already? Well I haven't even had the car for a couple of days yet, but I've done a few things...
  1. Used upholstery cleaner on the dirty ceiling, definitely needs some more though!
  2. Figured out how to do everything (i.e. parcel shelf removal, putting seats down, seat positions, mirrors etc)!
  3. Cleaned all the windows and mirrors!
  4. Checked all fluids and oil levels!
  5. Checked all lights/buttons!
  6. Checked tyre pressures, which I might decrease in the rear as they're running quite high!
  7. Took out the spare wheel/tyre, gave it a good clean but it is showing it's age, though it's been pumped up so it'll get me home if I need it now!
  8. Took the seal/cover off the heater matrix to remove the forest that was growing within it...
  9. Tried taking off the grille but couldn't get one of the centre poppers off and the front screws look a bit rounded off...
  10. Ran the car and moved it on the driveway!
  11. Put a blanket, a bag, a tool extension and a first aid kit in the boot!

*Following list is from original post, read thread for more*
What I plan to do next...
  1. Clean, clean, clean!
  2. Hopefully obtain new badges for the front and rear as all are discoloured!
  3. Try and clean the garage to fit the car in (or more likely at this time, find a suitable car cover for it)!
  4. Seal doors to prevent rust!
  5. Get some touch up paint for areas where paint has come away!
  6. Buy some Fiat Forum stickers of course!
  7. Potentially buy new number plates or at least replace some screws as they're looking a bit worn!
  8. What ever else I end up thinking of... follow the thread and read for more!

I also plan to go to some Panda classic events with others. I'll keep an eye out, but feel free to invite me to something if you've got something/see something going on!

That's about all I can think of right now! It feels so strange having a car, I'm very happy to have bought a car I really wanted. I've been looking for ages. :worship: If you have any questions about it then please do ask! I'm very happy to talk about my car! (y)
How about from behind the rear light clusters...?

I also have a black cat, although he's much bigger and fatter haha.
Sorry, overlooked your reply the other day! That was what we thought it may had been at first, but if it was then it should had gotten in to the boot as well. However, the floor, the Haynes manual, blanket and my bags in the boot were all bone dry. Strange...

Been out again today, no water in the back yet. Will keep an eye out for it as it rained earlier, so should be there tomorrow

I decided to fiddle with something else as I had the time, so tried cleaning up some wheel bolts. Used some white spirit and cilit bang - couple of them cleaned right up, couple of them still look a bit brown... still, it's a little thing I can keep doing till all of them are the same colour, gives me something to do while I wait for the rear of my car to become a swimming pool again :D

Will keep you all posted :slayer:

All of the wheel bolts have now been put in cilit bang and most have cleaned up quite well. Some not completely, but better than they were before! Used the torque wrench and it's all back together now, though not without a small accident with the end of the torque wrench and the wheel arch. The darn wrench came off as I was finishing off the last wheel and put a couple small scratches on the body. Might need to speed up looking for touch up paint at this rate :p

Anyway, to other fun stuff! Looking for a place to put the Panda sticker. Could put it in the bottom left corner like in the picture... also, showing off my new Panda 1000 badge. Much cleaner than the old one! I've ordered the Fiat and Fire badges so I'll put them all on in a bit. Got quoted £120 + VAT for Fizz decals, not sure if that's good or bad, but something to consider for the future I guess! :)

Next up should probably be that paint and some wax/sealant stuffs. If only that paint company would get back to me, eh! May look for some Fiat Forum stickers to go with my Panda, too, if I can get my positioning right ;)

first thing i did was buy all new badges, still not got round to fitting them though 8 months on
We'll see how it turns out with me then, hoping to put them on in a couple of weeks! :p
Don't want to **** on your bonfire, but this isn't right sticker for your car.
It's not only about the logo, there is much more behind the Panda thing, please show your support to WWF.
Right sticker? I received it from the previous seller. Was just hoping to make use of what I was given. Are you saying I should buy another sticker which has the same Panda on but says WWF underneath?

You bought it in the end then, nice looking car I quite fancy one myself,I did put a watch on this on e bay.my advice would be car on ramps , pressure wash underside and paint the whole underbody with black hammer it's and wax inject all box sections and door cavity s on a hot day.do this before winter starts to set in.good luck I hope it brings you much pleasure.

Yep, decided it had to be done! They really are great, make sure you watch out for them! Thanks for the advice, I'm going to be getting some sealants/paints soon to get stuff like that done before the winter. Will have to wait until after my short holiday now but it'll be done by the end of summer and hopefully on the road by then too! Thanks again!

Been out to the car today, finally got the garage cleared, so moved it. Three point turn and a quick but careful drive forward, and it was in! It's quite snug, and getting out of the car is interesting, but at least it's in  Attached a picture for you all to enjoy (y)

Hi kolza, you got a link to a better sticker which is right for my car? Cheers!

Back out the garage, interior vacuumed, scrubbed and cleaned. Tie wrapped my lovely mat behind a metal pole under at the front to stop it from flapping over, and tie wrapped the speaker wires out the way. Also used a handy piece of duct tape to stop a piece of insulation falling behind the brake pedal, so I'm pretty much all happy with the interior now :) Then driven back into the garage again!

As for the badges for the back, I received the Fiat and fire badges today but both have defects... I have contacted the company. Hopefully they send some better ones!

Haven't decided on stickers yet :p As for the leak in the back though, it may be down to some rubber washers which are sort of non-existent any more. Thanks to VmanC who has some high tech ones available, will change those and see what happens! (y)

Duct tape didn't turn out so well on the insulation, it decided to fall over again. Looks like I'll be going to the car to change that some time soon!

Had the car out again today. Back from a short holiday, so driven it out the garage and over the driveway. Finally been on long enough to have the fan going a few times, and finally took it over all of the driveway rather than just in and out the garage. Not going to be long before it gets some tax and insurance on it now, really excited to get Pandino out on the road!

Checked badges and turns out something went wrong... I have the curved Seicento Fiat badge as opposed to the flat one meant for the Panda. I was in contact with someone from the company and they didn't say it wouldn't fit, I asked and sounded like they said it would, but it's the wrong one! I have been in contact with the company to get it exchanged. The customer service with Partsworld-UK is really slow though, so I'm hoping they reply soon and get it sorted out quickly and easily. Previous mentions of the items being defected and all they said was that they're old so it's expected, yet it didn't say that on the item descriptions on their site, they were listed as brand new. Anyway, as I said, hopefully it gets sorted, I really just want to get them on and start buying and getting on with other things! :)

partsworld i have always found to be quite good, although never had to contact customer service so can't comment there. My replacement fiat script is from there and is the right one so they prob have just sent wrong one by accident. All the badges wherever you get them are gonna be new old stock if they are advertised as new so some damage is always possible but it should state any damage on adverts!

The Panda 1000 badge was great from them, no complaints, but the next couple badges they sent were a bit on the downside. Nothing extreme, but as you say, it should be stated on adverts if they could come with possible defects!

The Fiat Seicento type tailgate badge was sent because I bought that one, but I bought that one because I asked Partsworld if it would fit my 1993 Fiat Panda and they said it would. Turns out I needed the Cinquecento type flat one, and that one wasn't even available on their website, only on eBay! So I had seen it on eBay, ordered through the site, and got the wrong one because of what I was told via email.

Emailed back to them about it so hopefully they exchange that. I might just suck it up and keep the fire badge, it's a bit dirty but it was cheaper than other ones on eBay so I guess I can't complain too much. Need to get this Seicento type swapped out for the normal Cinq/Panda type though. They cost the same price so hopefully shouldn't be a problem!

They are pretty slow at emailing back. Seems to take them a few working days, and they aren't open weekends, so feels like talking to a brick wall :bang: Hopefully this email I sent yesterday gets replied to on Monday and everything is all sorted out, just want it to be done so that I can get on with the car :)

Good badges, just such a slow customer service :p

Big thanks to VmanC, rubber/plastic washers just arrived so those will be on the car soon!

So, I just received a package in the mail. What was it? Another Sei style badge and another fire badge. Even after emailing me telling me that they wouldn't send more badges, they went ahead and sent more! What's going on! No complaints about getting more, but partly annoyed they didn't tell me and have now sent another of the wrong style badge...

Going to send another email now. Going to say that I'm happy with the fire badges but still want Sei badges traded in for Cinq flat style. Main problem with Partsworld seems to be communication!

All emails sent, should hopefully be sorted some time in the next few working days :) I hope, anyway (y)

Rubber and plastic washers have been put on to my crosshead screws on the back above the boot seal now, all thanks to Vernon. Attached an image of my old washers, look in a good old sorry state!

Also, now purchased a few Fiat Forum stickers and a set of tailored mats for the Panda. Will show you all at some point when it arrives. Also put my blipshift sticker inside the car next to the passenger vent, fits perfectly, no picture of it but you all may see it one day

Took some pictures of the rust for someone so decided to share with all of you... here's the lovely stuff that I should probably sort out, somehow (y)

Purchased L plates off eBay, should be arriving with my car mats and Fiat Forum stickers hopefully this week!

While I had the car out to take pictures, I also took the duct tape off the insulation that fell over behind the pedals as it had fallen over. Got a new piece and instead of going horizontal I've gone for a vertical piece which is now holding the insulation up. Much better :D

EDIT: Link to images if thumbnails load slow for you here: http://imgur.com/a/fxOpN

Could you please upload some pics of the new insulator... Looking to do a similar job on my Panda LPG!
Thanks

It's not actually new insulator, it's just what was there originally - what I mean is a new piece of duct tape! What happened was between two of the pedals, the insulator has cracked at the bottom and fallen over, so the rest of the insulator was up but this small bit had folded down.

What I did was put a piece of duct tape vertically on the piece that had folded over, then pushed it back up against where it's supposed to be, and put the top of the duct tape sticking to the wall, so that it stays upright and doesn't fall down again! So it's not new I'm afraid, it's just my way of keeping the original stuff (y)

If you want a picture of it still then let me know. I can take it out tomorrow and take a picture of the duct tape holding the piece up, it's nothing special, but if you really want it then ask and I'll get it done for ye! :p

I though you had some new insulation material to replace the old one

Car mats arrived and fitted today! Look great, really suit it I think.

Only problem is the driver's mat moves as I move my foot on the clutch, which isn't ideal. Will have to trail and error with some things to keep it still. May just use some velcro stuck to the rubber matting underneath to keep it all held in! Anyway, pictures included in the post, take a look (y)

As far as Partsworld goes, I've now cancelled my order for the Fiat tailgate badge and they're going back tomorrow. Should get refunded my £7 when they get it - already ordered the proper tailgate badge now so that'll be here soon
Thanks

Unfortunately not. I did take a picture of the duct tape holding it up in case you wanted to see my bodge job on it though :D
