Multipla Glopsy

Introduction

Here's my new Multi, pictured on the day I picked her up, resplendent in what looks like a years worth of road grime

I've serviced her, fixed numerous electrical issues including getting the remote CL working again and got her through an MOT a few days ago.

Next up is a drive belt tensioner change, as mine makes a real racket, bleed the clutch to see if I can get a better pedal, change the gearbox oil and then try and find a pair of roof bars before our holiday in May :)
You're probably right, and I rang around a few breakers this afternoon without joy. I'll check the bay later but if anyone has got a good 105 amp alternator for sale please let me know.

Part number for the 105A alternator is 46782213. I think some Alfas (147?) use the same one, as well as other Fiats. Reconditioned ones are 71721092 but I don't often see those "7" series numbers used by sellers.

I think Denso DAN501 is the correct type. I've got a copy of the Denso application catalogue somewhere so I'll look it up...

Brand new, outright purchase (no exchange unit required) and delivery included. Denso and Bosch were the original alternator makes fitted to Multiplas by Fiat. The body of the Denso units is quite slim which makes it easier to get into place around the back of the engine.

Having checked out a couple of used ones this evening, which to be honest were rather overpriced considering the cost of the Denso one found by WMF. If these are indeed the same size as the one fitted then I may just have a go at the job myself if I get a couple of hours to myself in the coming weeks.

Just to confirm that a Denso DAN501 is the correct 105A alternator for 186A8.000 JTD engines with air con or climate control; also fitted to Marea JTD 105 & 110, 2.4 JTD, Multipla JTD 105 & 110. The Denso book also shows DAN502 (which is rated at 120A) as compatible.

Pssst... the "reduction" on the site mentioned above varies daily, but is normally greatest on a Monday or Tuesday.

Delivery can take a week or ten days, but it does arrive.

19% is the sweet spot. In the case of this alternator though, too much discount will end up costing you more. Free shipping to the UK only applies to orders over £102....

ECP have 33% off at the moment, it’s not a hard job to do if you have trolley jack and stands. I did mine in about 4hrs, I did have breaks for coffee and cake

Thanks Fozzie. Free time is a rare thing at the moment not to mention the weather ! My local garage can do it for £150 with me supplying the alternator which I reckon is probably the better option for me at the moment. She's currently laid up on my drive until I can sort out the money to fix her or find a plan b.

If you were closer I’d give you a hand, I’ve done the auxiliary belt, tensioner and alternator so it’s easier to get done with that knowledge

No worries Fozzie. I'm lucky in that my wife has a little car that we can use until we decide what to do with Glopsy and the alternator hasn't stopped working yet , just making horrid dying noises !

Good evening all. Well, I had all good intentions of getting the new alternator on this weekend but chickened out as it's just to cold and damp to spend hours lying on a gravel driveway so it's going into my trusted local garage on Wednesday. It's a shame in a way as I would've liked to have tackled it myself but the thought of fighting old nuts and bolts in this weather just isn't what I'd call fun spannering :)

Evening all,
Glopsy is now up and running with her new alternator and sounds all the better for it :)
The garage said it was a pig of a job and that I was lucky to have swerved it. The old alternator was well and truly dead, with a really wobbly pulley and a huge crack in the metal housing . I'll post up a pic of it when I get a photo

Well, it looks like the combination of my knackered alternator, cold weather and lack of recent use has killed the battery. I tried a trickle charge for a few days with no joy so we're off the road for a few days now until the new box of sparks turns up.
