I hadn't actually been looking all that long but this just seemed too much of a bargain to pass up

500? Wow that is a steal! She looks good mate, just a shame the exhaust isn't a bit more subtle.

I love my 1.4, they are getting rarer by the day too!

Re: Marcelline the 1.4 Sporting

Note to self: Do an HPI check next time you buy a car privately.

Turns out she's a Cat C repair job, I'm not overly concerned but the fact that the seller never mentioned it irrtates me as I probably could've got the car cheaper. Alas, onwards and upwards!

A couple of little issues have presented themselves recently. I was dropping a friend off and the "Power Steering Failure" came on when I stopped. Turned the car off and restarted and it went away and hasn't come back since. I'm now getting ESP and Hill Holder failure warnings though, so am thinking that the battery is goosed.

I'm also getting an engine failure warning, but she still runs perfectly fine, however there was no oil in there when I checked yesterday. I've refilled it now. God knows when the last owner previously did any kind of servicing so I've got more fresh oil, filters and spark plugs to go in there. Also ordered an EML cable so I can reset the codes and see if they come back.

I have a feeling that the warning might be related to the coolant as well as when I was poking around in the engine bay I came across a load of crystallised pink goop around the temp sensor and thermostat, and the temperature isn't rising properly, so I've also ordered a new sensor and stat.

I like it! Gives it that more aggressive sporting look.

Re: Marcelline the 1.4 Sporting

Had a busy afternoon. Thermostat and coolant temperature sensor replaced, coolant flushed and replaced and now working perfectly. Spark plugs replaced, oil and filter changed, and installed a new front grill as the original was a bit damaged and had the wrong size badge on.

Damn stubborn oil filter though.

Belts are next on the agenda, 72kish and I doubt they've ever been changed. She has aircon btw, never even noticed until today!

I would have got pics of the new grill but I didn't have time to clean the rest of the car

I'd bought some Heko wind deflectors too, but they'd sent me the ones for a 5 door car

Re: Marcelline the 1.4 Sporting

@tlo I'm gonna lie and say it's perfect, there're a few spots of rust here and there showing through the paint, and some scratches and I doubt the previous owners ever had it serviced, but for the price I can't complain because as blu73 says, parts are cheap!

I did notice when I was poking around the engine bay that all of the plastic parts in there are super brittle. Almost all of the cable protection disintegrated at the slightest touch, 2/3 of the lugs to hold the airbox down just imploded when I removed it and who knows what also that I haven't come across yet. But it works, it gets me to work and back and has enough poke to make the drive fun, which it really wasn't in the Pajero.
