Cinquecento Cinquecento Trofeo

Introduction

Hello all,

Just saying "Hi"

Many of you will recognise this car.

I am now the very happy owner.

Much credit to the previous owner for doing such a great job on it.

For me it is now time to take it to the next level.

Plenty of plans for this little car but first on the list is to put it on a diet.

Just had it on a weighbridge and it comes in at a wopping fat 770kg

Plan to get it down to 600Kg.

Great things ahead.

look forward to other members thoughts and ideas.

Cheers
Hello

Well, first is to finnish stripping out the interiour, deleting the sunroof, full set polycarbonate windows, race battery, new lighter seats (the ones fitted are out of date) remove body brakets and fixings that are not required possibly a carbon fibre bonnet.

Thats for starters.

Get it as lite as poss then think about the power output.

Racing in the spring.

bring it on

Sports Libre or Mod Prod?

That its a very cool Cinq!
Can someone explain why the seats go out of date?

Has the sound deadening been removed from the floor pan? Central locking etc?

Any photos of the interior

Can someone explain why the seats go out of date?
For motorsport, many (most) safety items are dated and can't be used after that date.
Seats, belts, racesuits, helmets etc..
Some items don't actually have a date and instead they change the required safety standard, which then puts things out of date.
Race seats do actually have a date though.

Thank you Purf. Very kind of you to say.

David, you got there before me. Spot on.

As to the other questions. The previous owner did an exellent job on this little car and removed most of the interiour.

I am now in the prossess of stripping the rest out, which includes central locking, electric windows etc etc.

And so it begins,

Have started removing extra unneeded weight.

The rear spoiler literally fell off :D. Not glued on particularly well. I prefer the simple lines of the Cinq anyway and not fitted to the original Trofeo anyway.

Will be keeping the front spots for show but not for racing.

Interiour trims, grab handles, door pockets, sound insulation and any redundant wiring (rear wiper etc) gone.

All this and thats 25 Kg gone already.

Still lots to do.

have found out where the oil leaks (several) are coming from:( easy but time consuming to fix.

Contemplating removing the whole heater assembly. Not sure yet.

Under bonnet wiring needs attention/tidying up/

A weekends graft I think(y)

Hi, I'm watching this very closely as I'm also building a Cinqecento Sporting for Sprints and Hillclimbs in 2016.
I don't want to throw a spanner in the works but are you aware that to be eligible to enter the Modified Production class the car must use the engine block it was originally produced with according to the current 2015 RAC MSA Blue Book.
I had planned to build a 1242 Punto 75 based engine but as they never produced a 1242 Cinquecento from the factory I'm sticking with my moded 1108.

The regulation regarding the engine block is listed 12.6.1

The car has an 1108 so meets the Blue Book (it has always been OEM spec blocks for Mod Prod AFAIK). Nitrane built a 1242 hillclimb Cinq several years ago and tried to get the MSA to accept it for Mod Prod rather than Sports Libre and failed to do so.

Nice to see your switched on about MSA Sprint & Hill climb regs, the Blue Book can be very confusing.
I'm waiting to see what happens with the 2016 "List B" tyre regulations and how the organising clubs implement them as I've got a set of 175/55x13 Avon CR500 tyres that could be outlawed for next year.
As you're sticking to 1108cc like me you must have a "screamer" engine build planned, from reading countless engine build threads around the web I've got a rough plan of what I'd like to try build and I'm currently gathering the bits needed.
I've been looking at the 750 Motor Club Clubmans 1108 engine builds and they're now claiming over 100bhp from an engine restricted to a standard oversize pistons,a single 36mm carb choke and a control camshaft, they have searched the Fiat parts system for every little item thats standard but makes a little bit more power and have come up with some very interesting stuff that I've not read on here.

Hi, Thanks for the information and I will get clarification from the club. But reading the regulations for the Modified Series Production Cars and Modified Specialist Production Cars regulations, I understood that regulation to be

12.6.1. The engine block must be externally identifiable
as that fitted to the original model or specified option.
Modification to all components is permitted.

The 1242 block is a fire engine block thats happens to be bored out and stroked so hoping it should be OK under the "Modification to all components is permitted" clause. As I say I will get clarification.

If I have to change engines its no big issue.

A 1242 has the same bore size, but is stroked. The block is ~10mm taller to allow this, so it isn't strictly speaking the same block as originally fitted to a Cinquecento.

As I said, you're not the first person to try this. Post 18 - https://www.fiatforum.com/cinquecento-seicento/56928-project-500-a.html John (Nitrane) went to build a 1242, but had to revert back to a 1108 after speaking to the MSA. By all means, speak to a scrut (because I'm not one!).

I originally considered building a sprint/hillclimb Cento using a sleeved 1108 block and a turbo, before changing my mind and building a Sevenesque car (which is still in many bits).
