Panda (Classic) Axel the Sisley 4x4

Introduction

Hi All, as you may be aware I purchased a certain Sisley 4x4 from @onemanmade a week ago.

It was a long (ish) trip up north of the boarder but well worth the trip!

We made it back without too many hitches, first problem was I brimmed the tank and subsequently lost several liters after it seemed to just come straight out the top of the tank. Don't know if something hasn't been fitted correctly after the tank was taken off or I did try to squeeze a little too much in causing it to come out the over flow :p Second issue found on our way back was as well as the clutch bearing being noisy (which we knew of) the clutch is slipping big time, you can accelerate if you do it carefully but if you just plant your foot the engine just revs and the clutch disengages.

Anyhoo I knew it would be a rolling project and the fact its had all the welding done means its a very good place to start :)

So lets crack on with some pictures!

So a 'To Do' list is in order:
Clutch
Fan switch mod
Lift Kit
Swap bull bars
Roof Rack
Plumb in the CB
Second set of wheels (with chunky offroad tyres)
A spare numberplate for our trailer!
Investigate Fuel tank
Investigate Temperature issue
Adjust Handbrake

PS: Some of you may have noticed I have changed the name! Can anyone guess my theme yet?
There was one with a sensor but it's the black style one.

Oh, yes. You got the sisley dials? Mine was changed to std 4x4 (in 2007 as the MOT history shows +55k miles in one year).

If you got acces/ skills to use solder iron it might be worth taking the speedo pod out, dissasemble and make sure there is no dry joints and have a look on the actual gauge coil. Check +12 volts input to the speedo pod as well, are there any auxilary equipment ( i.e. radio, clock, side swiches illumination) hard wired into same +12v feed?

Here are some pics from this weekends work at Toretto's Garage:
Managed to replace the outer gearbox seal but didn't manage to do the bearing behind it.
PS Many Many thanks to AndyPanda4x4 for his fantastic help this weekend!

 - What? - you didn't manage to strip, replace the bearings and then rebuild the gearbox while it was out during the day...?:bang: - A simple 5 hour job after all.

On the charging fault, I'm going wit two duff alternators. (One slightly less duff than the other.) I think alternators are more like fish than fine wine - they get worse with storage not better.

Right, I've determined the drivers side CV boot is the culprit of my oil leak.

Now looking at eper there is two types, however one type is no longer listed as such and this is the one which looks like the one we got. Does anyone know if the part which is shown will actually fit or will I need to find one of the old ones?

So whats currently on ours is #10 , will #14 fit or will I need to keep it the same?

I seem to remember the driveshafts are slightly different so you should get the boot that marries up with the driveshaft (is there a slight taper maybe on the bearing type?) However I think on that age of car you should have the bearing boot anyway so that may well be why it's giving issues, maybe some other Sisley types will confirm. Obviously if you're swapping you will need both boot and bearing to fit.

Yes, it should have the boot with separate bearing, I'm fairly certain the driveshafts are different for the earlier type with the integrated bush, but not compared the two side by side so not certain, I think the Haynes manual says it's the case though. It's possible someone has fitted a earlier driveshaft to yours at some point though. Both type of boot are available from Ricambio. The early type are even worse for leaking than the later ones, there has always been a slight weep from the brand new ones I fitted to my mk1!

Battery light could also be a failed diode (or something like that) in the alternator. Victoria had this, didn't affect charging but light was always on.

We just put up with it (well disconnected the bulb) until I decided to change the alternator the other year when I done a few other odd jobs on her. Didn't affect the charging though and I've still got the alternator as a spare :)

Thing that gets me with the Alternator being the issue is that we did swap it. Unless we got two duff Alternators...
