Ulysse 2005 2.0 Petrol Auto.

Hi and sorry if i'm going over old ground but I think i've looked everywhere on this site and on the web in general and pulling my hair out, unfortunately i don't have much left !!

My 2005 2.0 Petrol Ulysse began cutting out. It would do it on idling and when cruising / coasting / braking. Sometimes it would cut out then re start other times i would have to pull over and turn everything off for a minute then no problem. I was getting error codes, cant remember think code but one was Hot Oxygen sensor and the other was Manifold air pressure.

Took it to my local (None Fiat garage) they did the usual coin toss and the looser got to look at my car. They removed and cleaned the throttle body. Ran ok for two or three days so i replaced the throttle body. Seemed fine for a couple of weeks then happened again. I replaced the Pre and post CAT Lambda sensors and the MAP sensor slight improvement. I no longer get any error codes but it still stalls on idling and slowing usually into roundabouts!!

I have also replaced numerous other components-
Throttle Body
Lambda Sensors
MAP sensor
Coil Pack
Plugs (old ones looked fine)
EGR valve
CRANK Sensor

And it still cuts out. I have disconected the battery and re connected and tried to allow the car to tick over for at least 2 minutes. Thinking this may help re set ECU after i fitted new parts. I am sick and tired of re setting the time and date!!!! It sometimes takes 30 secs with ignition completely off before it will re start.

Any help or advice would be awesome :worship: the car is great but is becoming useless due to reliability and cost of repair.

Not sure if the 2005 Petrol engine has an IAC valve??? Cant find it, i also believe from forums there is nof MAF sensor on it. If anyone can put me straight i would be obliged, and locating them a bonus.

Thanks Dale

So, after looking at all the sensors I've changed I thought that maybe I haven't let the ECU reset and learn the new sensors. So did more research, advice was disconnect battery using negative connection. Leave for 45 minutes. Restart engine, leave idling for 5 minute's. Engine off restart. Bingo.
So I left it unplugged for 7 hours, re connected battery, let it tick over for 6 minutes. Engine off. Re start, and drove to work. 6 miles in whilst waiting at traffic lights it stall's. Re started no problem. Drove another mile to work, put car into reverse stalled again!!!!

I know that you probably won't want to hear this but my advice would be to take it to a Fiat main dealer and have a diagnosis check. The reason I say this is that we had sort of similar problems with a Peugeot 206 (poor rating and cutting out), & also a 2003 Clio Dci which became very troublesome to start and which also cut out. In each case we and an independent auto electrician spent hours trying various things. The 206 was first, they even suggested scrapping it so I booked it in to a Peugeot main dealer and within 30 mins they traced it down to two relays in the starting circuit, they replaced them and all was well. Same with the Clio a couple of years later, I was a bit wiser by then and took it into a Renault main dealer for a diagnosis. Strangely it turned out to be faulty relays again.

It seems that the main dealers have the correct equipment and also the experience & knowledge.

I hope this helps.

Hi, and welcome:)

the Ulysee isn't your "normal" FIAT..,( pug- Citroen)
but generally the ID / code is stored in the vehicles Computer "Brain" / ECU

so removing battery power won't be an issue,

(another way of saving hassles is to put a 12 volt supply through the lighter socket - keeping SOME power to electronics while swapping batteries)
