Uno Tommyd97's Uno 60S

Introduction

Hey everyone so i've been on the forum a little while been doing a thread for my Panda 100hp. my most recent purchase however is a Fiat Uno 1991 60S.

I bought it online with out seeing the car. It was delivered on Friday. it doesn't look in great shape, the paint work has all faded and there are lots of dents in the body panels.

the inside is very clean tho and after getting on the ramp and having a look underneath there is no rust at all so really happy with that.

Its done just over 21000 miles and unbelievably still has the original tyres on the rear. they will need changing because they are perished.

the car has been off the road for a few years and therefore has not been mot'd in god knows how long.

first plans for the Uno: get new tyres, sort the passenger side headlight (hopefully that is just going to be a bulb), and replace the side indicator light as the clip that holds it in the panel has snapped, also cleaning it up and trying to get the colour back in the paint, and the black plastic numbers and trim.
todays update. I changed the side indicator and now is all working and i also took a few shots of the car. There is still along way to go until its even close to perfect but its alright looking a load better than it did when it first was delivered.

Hi Tommy ,what did you use to restore the bumpers and plastic trim.

Meguiar's Endurance High Gloss Tyre Protection Gel you need to re-apply it every other month or so but it comes up really nice.

I apply it with a dish sponge.

I've tried using the Back to Black and I found that it wasn't that great, just my opinion.
I hope that helps Claymas

Thanks Tommy I'll try it.Yesterday I tried grease I applied it with a paint brush and left it in the sun to melt and bake into the plastic. It looks good but lets see how long it lasts.

That's a great little car, nice colour too...

I'd change all the fluids including gearbox oil, maxby use e.g. Valvoline MaxLife products with additives to help older cars and engines stay leak and sludge free.

Have you got loose baffles in the exhaust? I wouldn't be surprised... give the box a thump! Nice to have a car with no Cat... you get the classic Fiat rasp!

It could be worth getting Dentmaster / Chipsaway to look at your front wing... not cheap but maybe an easy way to lift the car that extra bit.

Anyway enjoy the project!

thanks mate, i think this week a few more things are gonna happen, e.g. full service stuff like that. i've got a good friend who has worked in body shops for about 25 years so he said he'd help me out. i'm really looking forward to getting it all sorted.

okay guys i need some advice, i steam cleaned the engine the other week and it has come up real nice, however the exhaust manifold still looks real old and rusty, i'm going to take it off to clean but are there any products that you would recommend?

thanks

What tyre sizes have you got? classic skinny 135/80s? Probably worth getting a decent make like Goodyear or Firestone, you'll need all the grip you can get!

I wouldn't change the wheels, the original look with the smooth Fiat wheeltrims is great for that car IMO.

Thanks both those replies are very helpful.
I think i'll get the manifold started this weekend.
i've ordered the badges thank you for the links i was looking everywhere and had no luck.

I agree about keep the standard wheels but the wheel trim isn't in great condition does anyone know where i can get orginal wheel trim?
