Bravo (Classic) Fiat Bravo 155 HGT

Introduction

Hey folks,

Did a deal with Bushboy yesterday and now own his old Bravo 155 HGT :slayer:

You can read about it when he had it here: https://www.fiatforum.com/members-motors/337865-fiat-bravo-hgt-155-a.html

Nothing really to say yet but thought I would start up a thread to post updates to as and when they happen..

I don't really have a plan to make lots of changes to it at the moment but we will see how it goes. Right now I am thinking i might change the wheels but to what i am not sure, but think 16s would look better than the 15s. And tempted to try get the back a little lower to match the front.

Here is a few photo's, sorry my pics aren't as professional as Bushboy's, They are taken on my super old phone - In future i will try get some with a proper camera

Cheers Adrian - It seems solid enough without it so think i will leave it unless i spot a bravo in the scrappies or something tbh. But well spotted nonetheless!!

I noticed whilst looking at the technical manual on my laptop that certain sections don't seem to work, stuck CD in and ran it from there and works fine. So I am kinda hoping if i copy it again that will fix it. Off to use my mothers nice flat drive to do the servicing this weekend (weather permitting) so assuming i can get it all to work when copied off the CD I will try and upload the technical manual to the downloads while I am there.

no never have, only mk2 punto i have ever been in is the sporting i picked out for my mum many years ago..

I wouldn't call the bravo really fast anyway, its pretty quick top end as it has long gears - so great for bashing up and down motorways etc. I should imagine the puntoHGT is geared a bit shorter if it has better acceleration times as you can see from the figures you posted the bravo has a power-to-weight and torque-to-weight advantage. The punto has a similar engine but its the 4pot like in a barchetta or a bravo 1.8hlx, same family of engine though as far as i know.

lol... tools, jacks, axle stands and random parts and bits collected from the mothers house this week fella. Monmouth Meet (should prob be called the Ross-on-Wye meet as it much closer to there lol) is this weekend, work will commence after that don't you worry. She (i think its a she lol) is all tucked up warm in her new garage, on her soft soft carpet.

I have some badges to go on now, well i have the fiat script for the back - i got a stilo/mk2 punto one instead though. And ordered but not yet arrived some coupe 20v b-pillar badges - one for each side and one for the back where the oem bravo badge should go. Might not be to everyones taste but all brand new badges and factory fiat badges and should look a bit more fresh and modern than the original badges in my view. Might order a brand new one for the front grill yet too.

Right so, not actually done anything to her as of yet - but she is ready for work now.. Hopefully get a load of stuff done over the weekend - Thinking i might just cut off the aux belts and run her a bit to see if the bearing noise disappears and if it does I am gonna leave the timing belt for now. I suspect the PAS pump bearing is the noise and the timing belt is not that old yet but we shall see how it goes though.

Well not really had a chance to work for a period of any significant time on it.. But i can report that i cut aux belts off and ran the car and although its quieter there was still a little bit of a noise so decided to go ahead and change the timing belt - and then hit a snag. I got a new engine mount cause the one on the car was looking pretty shoddy but the bolt was seized in the bush pretty damn well.
But after several hours effort and many many dead dremel bits the damn thing is off, and got the timing belt cover off too - should be pretty straight forward from this point from what I have read but thats all I have had time to do so far :(

So still nothing really to report, but realised I hadn't posted more new parts I got to fit..

New expansion tank to replace the grotty looking discoloured original.

And new badges, newer style fiat script as fitted to stilo/mk2 punto etc to go on the rear hatch. And coupe 20v b-pillar badges with yellow slash, gonna put one on the back where the bravo_hgt badge would normally go and one on ea h side of the car - undecided whether to stick them on the door pillars or on the front wings.

looking on my copy of the eper, which is just a few years old, the bravo_hgt script badge is still available new.

emaps (3).jpg
No.8 on there, that is part no. 7791332

The 2.0_20v one is discontinued though :( but you may find some new-old stock somewhere, part no. is 7791332

ok so still not finished but i have done some stuff. Car is in many bits and I can report that the waterpump makes quite a bit of noise and feels rough to turn - thats been taken off and replaced with nice swooshy smooth shiny new one.

I have pulled the PAS pump out of the big funny bracket thingy it sits in and the bearing there is utterly fubar'd, this i have not yet got off but I am working on it, i really don't want to have to drop the alternator and ac compressor off etc etc to get the big bracket off to take it somewhere with a press so i shall continue to struggle with it for a while longer.

Timing and aux belt idlers and tensioners all been swapped out too so once this pas bearing is out and replaced its pretty much plain sailing just putting things back together. Although i may take the opportunity to do some other bits like the poly gear selector bushings i bought and the new gearbox mount i bought etc. But I am getting there slowly, kinda miss the car now but have also started to hate it as well lol.

I think if i had time to spend on the car i would enjoy it more, but all this an hour here and an hour there is getting old.

i got these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180748010117 for the gear selector mechanism, the hgt doesn't have cables though - dunno about other models though without looking at eper, can't remember what yours is
