Punto (Mk2/2b) My daily

Introduction

Fat Amy

Thought it was about time I showed you guys a very few pictures of my 2005 mk2b.. It's the trusty old 1.2 8V! I got it back in end of January this year, when my grandma decided it was time to buy a new car - so it's well taken care of, under body sealant and low mileage (only done ~111500km now).
I obviously have no intentions of keeping it stock, and seeing as I'm into HiFi, the first thing I got for the car was a new headunit and door speakers. Since then I've replaced front & rear dampers, strut bearings, lowered it and fitted a badgeless grille. More is to come - along with better pictures!

Hi everyone. ... nice to be in this group.
I have punto mk2 2001. It had a 1.2 8v engine, manual transmission, and no ABS, EBD nor power steering.
I have recently changed my motor with a used one of 1.2 16v with its control which was with automatic transmission, EBD, ABS, and power steering. However, I have connected it to manual gear box. I have now a trouble which is that Isometimes the rpm becomes unstable on 800 rpm when I remove my foot from the acceleration pedal and I press the clutch pedal while driving which sometimes turn off the car specially when the A/C is turned on.

Engine bay looks amazing, nice work!

Can I ask how easy it was to change your Leads to the coil packs?

The previous owner has damaged the clips on mine and would really like to upgrade.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

A painted cam cover would be nice ;)

I soldered some wires directly onto the coil pack and filled the plug with epoxy. I've then added a 3-pin Deutch connector in between the factory loom and the coil pack. I've just spliced the two GND wires into one. Ignition leads themselves are custom order from Magnecor, as the coil pack plug is different on the 16V coils than the 8V.

Many thanks for the info Brinker - sounds a little bit out of my ability lol.

May have to tap up an auto electrician and see if anyone is willing to do it for me!

Isn't yours a 1.4 16V? If so, then why the upgrade? Are the coils bad on that one as well? Can't imagine it being a notorious problem like on the 1.2 8V. I've just fitted the coil pack from a 1.2 16V - which coincidentally is also used on a Ferrari F355.. Which makes it that little bit more awesome :p

Haha that's pretty cool!

Yes 1.4 16v but the previous owner broke all the clips on mine and my ocd is getting the better of me!

Always worried they aren't secured to the coilpacks properly!

And please excuse the state of the engine bay, having her cleaned this weekend.

Oh the OCD - do I know that feel... :p
Then you'd basically just need new plugs. But not a DIY job as such, if you don't have a pin removal tool. Not super easy to release the pins inside the plugs with just a small flathead screwdriver. The coils themselves are fine I assume?

Yes everything is running ok but just trying to get everything renewed and in order. The lead covers themselves have perished and its all looking a bit untidy.

I wasnt aware that the clips could be removed - I wouldnt even know where to start in order to find replacements?!

Fiat should have them. I'd like to say I could give you the part no, but I need some time to dig down into the parts catalogue.

I fitted a Toyosports 4-1 decat manifold last weekend, and this is the result - which is rather noticeable! Torque curve now with peak @3500 rather than @2500 and overall 10nM gain throughout. The power curve is also quite a lot smoother now, especially above 5000rpm. Next step: camshaft (in about 15000km when the timing belt is due).
