Hi, I own a 2009 grande punto 1.4 t-jet which is remapped. its only done 28,900 and have recently had an engine management light on the dash after inspection its because of the piston rings. Ive been lead to believe the rings on the fiat engines are quiet flimsy anyway. I've just paid £1000 for an engine overhaul although the vehicle is nearly 6 yrs old I'm pretty gutted to experience why this has happened. the only thing i can state is I do drive the car hard occassionally and more so from cold which may be a mistake. I have red lined the car also on numerous times also.

PLEASE can anybody assist and help me with this issue please

Yeah, cold engine/oil and hard revving is the worst thing you can do actually.

What oil brand/type/service cycle?

Can you post compression results?

I cant post compression results as I dont have them. I've not got the car back yet hopefully this week. I had the coil pack changed just before it happened due to engine mgmt light coming on then after two days it came on again after they did a diagnostics check a different cyclinder went down and they removed a spark plug to find oil deposits underneath

they have removed engine had 3 new gaskets, realigned valves and had new piston rings poilished the bores etc. ill find out more when i pick car up this week

thanks for your help if you want my contact number let me know

do you know of any fiat clubs i can go to please aswell i wanna show her off its one of a kind in uk mine its 160bhp too

oil is from vauxhall 5w30/40 the car is serviced every year but i only clock 5,000 per year anyway

I was afraid of that
You don't mean halfords vauxhall 5w30 fully synth oil (ACEA A3 B4 API SL CF) right?

This is wrong type of oil for this engine.
SAE 5W-40 Fiat 9.55535-S2 qualification or ACEA C3 specifications, (and only that) is the correct type.

Am I best going to fiat direct for the oil then? Is it because the cars remapped and the engine is working harder?

you ideally need to be servicing the car more often if its mapped. Can I ask was it live mapped? (eg on a rolling road) or was it a man in a van?

I personally use Shells fully synth 5w-30 and works well with the engine.. and so does Sweex (his is remapped)

Driving the car hard from cold will be potentially damaging more components than just the pistons. so let it fully warm up before driving fast.

YES - to all of that,

why are you driving it HARD from COLD anyway..??
it's not a diesel..!!:bang:

engine out..WHY ?, it's a head and block job.
. or are you having crank work too..??

Charlie

I have the car serviced every 12ths. I had the car remapped 4yrs ago from evolution chips. A car downloaded data from my ecu sent it away via email had new map downloaded onto my ecu paid £330!

You can't know if the oil is good until you have to replace something major inside the engine lol

That's why you stick to factory specs. Anything else out of spec and you are testing engine limits on wrong oil. What's the point anyway?

OP, return to your old stock map for now and map it later on a dyno with the correct tools... Don't use a map that's not calibrated on your car.

thanks for the advice, ill take a chance and leave the map on the car not going back to 120bhp as it stands its about 155bhp and havent had trouble in the past till now. ill make sure the correct oil from fiat goes into my car from now on anyway then there shouldnt be a problem

Yes I know it's hard to go stock again :yuck:
Maybe next time when you upgrade to vl36 turbo? :D

Sorry for being dumb but what's a vl36 turbo is that the garnett one? I heard you can get a alfa romeo 147 engine into a punto lol

It's the bigger turbo abarth gp use.
Search for more infos here you can find everything you want to know about it ;)

Is there any grande punto clubs in the north west?

Check out the events section. There is a nw meet every thursday at the traford center where we meet up for a chat :)

+1 for the get the standard map. The map is a gerneric map not made for your engine. Wouldnt suprise me if that had some factors in your engine blowing pistons as it may not be fueling right.

Had engine out because several rings went on the pistons and engine management light came in hence it was running on the cyclinders. I've had rings done bores polished valves realigned crank done three new gaskets etc etc etc lol

Give me a text that's too meetings 07595357988 ref to remap is been ok for 4 us not had issues and evolution chips are good so not sure why it happened I think it's cause I've red lined it a few times and drove it hard from cold
