At long last, Sky Panda has his own thread :D

I acquired this little beastie through the classifieds here this summer.

On collecting him he had a poorly wheel bearing and a very blowy exhaust.

I drove him (carefully!) from Sheffield via (can't remember where) and onto johndragonman's where he sorted out the problems and adjusted a few other issues - like the fog lamps not working!

Next trip to John's we fitted the bonnet and boot lid from BEX for that authentic two-tone shed look

John also checked and fitted the new trailing arms as you can see they were gonners!

Weather this was due to the lowering springs it came fitted on I don't know, it sure holds the road well though. I would like to fit a set of more "Fiaty" alloys, I've just not got around to choosing a set yet.

I've thought a lot about Sky and to be honest as rare as he is I have no interest in keeping the standard engine (especially with at least one cross threaded spark plug), I'll be looking out for conversion, probably to a 1242 8v, that is a great engine with lovely gearbox perfectly suited to the panda with good torque and long gears.

If I am going to have a 16v I think I'll just get a Panda with one fitted to be honest - seems a lot less hassle that way?

He will get some replacement doors and a tart up next year, he's in the queue behind Gertie and Fizzle in that regard.

He may also get some alfa seats too - I just need to buy a set!

Anyway thread started and a bit of history and a few plans to start with.
Oh and I desperately need to replace the twin sunnies but can't make head nor tale of the Italian eBay sellers method of payment - if someone has a spare pair from him I would gladly take them off your hands!

let me know the ebay listing link and i will translate it for you

I managed to get the order sorted out, not before accidentally buying another set on ebay though. I couldn't be bothered with the hassle of trying to cancel so I now have two sets!

Seeing as the injected twin sunnie never got bought I may well sell it on to a forumer - I think with P&P it cost me about £95 for each set!

After fitting another battery to the old cinq Lucyloo1 is running these days (until she inherits the Alessi) I took it for a test drive. Up shot is I love the little fuel injected 1108 engine and I'm very tempted to fit this into Sky. I suppose I should let the cinq fail the MOT in march firstor I shall be accused of cinqycide!

So many useful bits too - steering wheel, brake servo, wiper arm.....

If it gets the engine (and servoed brakes) upgrade it gets alfa seats and a trip to italy.

Otherwise it will be in the classifieds!

Don't forget to offer it to Sam if you do sell. She didn't say she was interested, but she's as mad as the rest of us & might be tempted for old time's sake!!

After a short charge of the battery Sky fired up without too much trouble - mainly getting the combo of choke/pedal pushes, idles nicely until up to temp - wierdly the gauge never moved- fan cut in and off.
Not bad seeing as he hasn't turned a wheel in a couple of months and is sorned over winter.
I did however manage to leave the passenger side window slightly open resulting in a pool of water in the footwell and some furry mould growing about the damp cabin!
Not to worry, as soon as the weather warms up it will get a valet :)

And Sky has failed the MOT :

Reason(s) for refusal to issue Certificate

Offside Side repeater not working (1.4.A.2c)

Offside Rear Upper shocker Suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded (2.4.A.3)

Nearside Rear Upper Suspension spring mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded (2.4.A.3)

Offside Rear inner sill Suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded (2.4.A.3)

Offside Front to flexi Brake pipe excessively corroded (3.6.B.2c)

Advisory Notice issued

Offside floor Seat belt anchorage prescribed area is corroded but not considered excessive (5.2.6)

Nearside floor Seat belt anchorage prescribed area is corroded but not considered excessive (5.2.6)

Exhaust has a minor leak of exhaust gases (7.1.2)

Service brake: service brake efficiency only just met. It would appear that the braking system requires adjustment or repair. (3.7.B.7)

N/s rear wheel arch weak

Getting a quote for the work from the garage tomorrow.

Wish I'd not let the MOT run out then it could have gone to a forumer for repairs :bang:

Did you not recently drive from London to Stoke on Trent in a car that had no MOT (and had hardly moved in over a year) with no problems :p of course it was booked in for an MOT at the destination so perfectly legal ;)

Allegedly m'lud! :p

I'm too tight to pay for another MOT at another garage

I have been a bit lax with Sky and not really had a good look underneath.

I'm hoping for a good outcome here - I really don't want to become the forum's very own panda killer
