Fiorino (Mk1/Mk2) 127 Fiorino

Introduction

I know it might look like a bit of a shed at the moment but life would be nothing without imagination and dreams. So imagine that this is pristine in it's original colour of Bleu Fiordo (torquoise) and dream of it purring down the road. I do......
:eek::eek::eek:

Let's see if I can post a few pics the right way..........

There you go, double for your money:D That'll teach me not to "double-click" on the pics:eek:

That's better I can see them now! (y) You were getting overexcited with the clicking weren't you?!

Looks like there's a bit of work there, but probably no more than you were expecting. The door jamb was a bit  though.....

You'll probably run out of storage for the photos fairly quickly. If you do, just donate to the forum (£1 upwards) and you'll get unlimited storage.

I can't believe that I have managed to get a new matching rear door to the one I had off Palio. These must surely be the last two doors in the UK:D

The only part that I have not been able to locate is a rear valance but I have bought one for a Mini van/pick-up, and I think that this can be stretched to fit.
I've also discovered that the front X-member that I bought is for a later van, so it looks like repairing the old one.
I have found that it helps to check the colour of the primer on new Fiat parts. If it is supplied in the pink/beige primer it is probably off the earlier cars. If it is in grey primer, then it is likely to be off a later model. I don't know what year Fiat changed their primer colour but it is a useful indicator. (having the part numbers also helps).

Wow!! I've just noticed this...

I saw this van on Autosh*te when it was still in it's barn. The fellas who were rescuing the Eastern Bloc stuff from the same barn (FSO 125 pick up and others I think) posted pictures of it. I was tempted myself but I am all out of room.

I know that rot looks daunting but that can all be fixed, as you have shown. Amazing to think this is being saved as commercial vehicles just do not see preservation in the same numbers as the cars they are based on. Makes sense as vans are a tool and abused...

Apparently that recent scrappage list had three 127 Fiorinos traded in against new vehicles. Terrible. Which makes this so worth it.

That definitely looks like 462 Fiordo Blue. It is also what is listed as the colour option in the Fiorino/900E Citivan brochure I have from from 1981.

Fiordo is also the original colour of my 900T Citivan, which I finally trailered over to the paintshop this morning...

Thanks for that. I've got the photos downloaded now. I also got a piece (4 actually) in the current (December issue) of Classic Van and Pick up magazine.

Now that the petrol tank is out it looks like it will need replacing. I checked out this one but apparently the supplier went bust :bang:

The search goes on, but if anyone has a tank lying around????
There are two on ebay but they are not the right ones.

I have tried to attach a pic of mine.

150 hours of welding and we are beginning to see some light at the end of the tunnel. It may be the tiniest chink in the corner of a big dark hole but it is encouraging. As expected everything that could have rotted did.
It now has new front panel, wing, rear panel, sills, rear arches. I have four new doors and a bonnet to go on, and anything that couldn't be replaced has been/ is being repaired.

Well work continues on the Fiorino. It's nowhere near done but there is some hope:bang:
The engine is back in, albeit untested. All the suspension and brakes have been replaced. The back doors and the bonnet are on and I am starting on the sides. Still have to put the windscreen back in and the interior, plus the new front doors, but it's getting there.

The Fiorino continues to make progress, but I am getting more frustrated with every job I tackle. The windscreen went in like a dream and the rest of the interior is back in. I filled the engine with anti-freeze and it leaked out of the water pump. It was obviously an internal seal as the water was coming from the shaft rather than the gasket. With the engine out it's a fifteen minute job to change the pump. With the engine fitted it was a two day job:bang:
I've started to fit the passenger door, but my welding on the A-post has obviously left the top hinge mount slightly out of alignment so this will have to be redone.
The bonnet and front doors, which were painted in the winter, are a different shade to rest. The paint is the same supplier and code so I can only presume that the cold weather affected it.
That doesn't matter too much as the whole van needs smoothing off and a proper spray job, but I was hoping to have it looking half-decent for the Van & Pick up show at Gaydon on the 9th August.
This was the target that I originally set myself for the re-commission (not restoration) and I think that it may have been a little ambitious.
I have probably done about as much as I want to do now, so if anybody wants to make me an offer (Palio? :D) I am quite willing to let someone else finish it off;).
I have receipts for about £5k but I know that i am never going to recoup that. The van will come with a spare (original) engine and spare laminated windscreen. Just about everything has been replaced on this van and I have four cinquy alloys to go on.
If you are interested contact me. I might then be able to get cracking on the Strada Cabrio:)
