Punto (Mk1) Molly II - Punto GT3 - The Resurrection

Introduction

As some may know, I bought this car from @blu73 back in February, see his thread here - http://fiatforum.com/members-motors/281984-molly-ii-punto-gt3.html

On the way home though, it became apparent (on the M1 I might add) that there was a problem, as she was coughing and losing power. Having taken the best part of 2 hours to nurse her the 30 odd miles home, it was apparent that the alternator was goosed. I started trying to change it but the engine bay on these is so densley packed that I kept getting so far and giving up, and so she's sat for the last 5 months or so - waiting patiently.

Until yesterday, my gf's mum's partner came over and gave me a hand and she's now ready to go for MOT, booked in for 9am tomorrow!

Here's some pictures just taken after a quick trip out to test brakes etc and after a well needed wash:

Plans, as blu73 really, keep her standard and keep her running basically.

Reactions: blu73 and homeward
So her clutch slave cylinder failed, I managed to get her home by basically forcing her into 3rd, which was fine, got her home got the cylinder changed and all seemed well ... until I went to drive her and she kept trying to go forwards, even out of gear. Seems like she's stuck in 3rd still and I can't get her out, no matter what I try and do :(
blu73 thinks it could be a bent selector fork, which would make sense given the effort I had to put in to get her into gear without a clutch. I've contacted a local transmission specialist who've quoted me £100-150 to repair it, which is about the cost of a 2nd hand box but at least this way I'll know what I'm getting and should have some kind of warranty I'd suspect.

So that's my job for the new year. While the box is out I'm thinking of dropping the engine out too so that I can remove the sheared manifold stud from the head and just give all the other mechanicals a good seeing to.

going back to the subject of clutches my GT had a new gearbox fitted last year so i said to the garage just change in a new clutch whilst its all off. i was surprised how good the old unit was when it came out. plenty of meat on the friction plate and that was at about 135,000 mile. i reckon it was the original as it seemed unlikely it had been replaced mid life at around 60 to 80k as they generally do last a lot longer than that. was almost gutted the old clutch was still serviceable but its risky putting it back in especially if the pressure plate fingers are worn or the release bearing is noisy but here the gearchange of itself was perfect. it was a Valeo part as was the replacement.

It's come to the point where I just don't have the time to work on this car, and I need to free up the money, so if anyone's interested in buying her please PM me. I'll put an ad up in the Classifieds shortly with more information.
