Seicento My Seicento

Introduction

So i ventured into the world of ownership of an sei on a complete whim as i was told about 02 (chiquento) as stated by my neighbor :) I went to look at said car thinking it was a cinq when i was greeted by a 02 seicento schumacher.

After much haggling i purchased CZA and went home to insure to bring him home
HELP!!!!!!!! CZA has developed a problem , first instance was last night when out of the blue he cut out pulling up to stop at lights! All lights on the dash and wash just turning over with no spark eventually it primed and ran with no issues .

Today started up no problem drove to motor factors with no issues until i come to drive home, now i have no power at the key at all! No ignition, no interior lights nothing....

Car ran fine and had no starting issues previously until last night

there is a plasic cap at the top of the box, just fill it up from there it makes it so much easier

That's the breather! It can be done that way, but given that you have to remove the plug anyway and that most gearbox oil comes in squirty bottles with wee hoses and that it's quite easy to break the breather, I'd not do it that way.

What you absolutely must not do is to drain the box, and fill it with the specified quantity of gearbox oil without the filler plug as reference. As the figures all seem to be for a bone dry, fresh from the line, gearbox, you'll end up hugely overfilling it.

OK, don't panic. First suspect is the main earth from the top of gearbox to inner wing. Remove, scratch clean, apply vaseline or (better) silicone grease, tighten up.

Not to bad to strip down and all came apart really easily

They were defiantly ready to change as the wear was really uneven on both sides ImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1405201499.186459.jpg

Thank you for your help so far with all my requests and inquiries peoples

Am i heading for Head Gasket failure???

Im using alot of water and there's a gargle when i switch the engine off. Lifting the bonnet this morning theres also a very slight hiss from the header tank.
There isnt any mayo in the oil but im slightly worried that its going to fail on me at the weekend with a trip to sheffield.

Also Car is lumpy when started from cold and also when hot! Im going to change the HT leads and put some fuel additive in to see if this can improve at all.

Water loss has to be either a leak (prime candidates are water rail, water rail O ring, water pump) or head gasket.

Forget the fuel additive. Use the olde start it in the dark, air box off, look for blue flashes routine to check the condition of the HT leads.

Compression test will rule in/out HG, as will sniff test.

Cheers again for the replies chaps ?

Been and bought a few bits plus some service items to see if anything improves

Sorry fingers99 only just seen your post about the additive but im sure it wont do any harm...

I was just doing a quick check before i got to work on the water hoses and ive come across some copper piping, this time from the header tank! Im guessing its not supposed to be there!?

Il get myself a compression tester to see if compression is down just concerned about the costs involved but will get it done if its needed...

After a run to sheffield and back the car isn't happy at all ;(
First of all it felt it was running on 3 cylinders but seemed to clear when warmed up.
On the run back the engine management light intermittently flashed and went through running awful to normal .
On arriving home just! On idle its again running like on 3 cylinders and had used nearly all its water.

Last weekend i got use of a code reader that gave no issues.

Just with the symptoms im still swaying towards that its gasket failure but until i can get a compression tester i cant be certain.

On a positive note im well made up that he took us the 275 miles even though he pooly ?

I have a compression tester you can borrow for a couple of days. I'm in Scotforth. I can't help with the job though as I'm off work at the moment with an injured shoulder (Bursitis, hellish painful!).

Ian.

Worst bit is waiting for the head to come back from skimming.

Take the opportunity to get the valves re-cut, reset the valve clearances.

Worth taking the time to check why the HG went -- 95% go for a reason.

im going to replace a few bits while the head is off

Cam belt / Tensioner
water pump
drive belt
manifold gasket

il be getting my father in law to help me with it or failing that ive been given a local garage recommended by grumpyoldman (y)
could just do without the bloody cost at the mo but there's never a good time to break down(n)(n)(n)
