Croma 1.9 prestigio auto 2005, 105000 miles

Introduction

Great, unappreciated car.
That's definitely the best possible colour combination - beige interior, black bodywork. I had a car that scheme once.

Mine's metallic red paintwork, strange bluey-grey fabric interior (a weird combination really). The Prestigio fabric reminds me of a 1990s Ford - possibly a Granada Ghia.

The big downside of black paintwork is that it looks dirty about ten minutes after washing it.

You'd have to spend a lot to get a better car for cruising though - comfy seat, loads of space and quiet.

It depends whether the GM gearbox and clutch could take it - I believe from previous discussions here that they may be pretty close to the limit at 150. I think, from memory, that someone here did chip theirs and the clutch started slipping shortly after. It's worth a search on here to find out.

Having said that, if the DPF ever fails then I'd probably get it deleted from the ECU and bypassed, together with the EGR valve. If you go down this road then a power increase is probably standard anyway. So I'd have to look into it if it came to it. And it all depends on how the new MOT rules are going to be enforced - there was talk of all cars that had a DPF being required to keep it for ever. This may have been bluster though - our Cromas were all made before the DPF became a legal requirement, and I don't know whether DVLA actually know which cars have/had one when made - it's more likely that they'll pick a manufactured date after DPFs became compulsory, in which case we can do what we like.

As far as I understand it most dpf removals include putting back the box in which case it's impossible to tell if it's been removed on a visual inspection. Mines the auto, and the 2.4 can obviously handle the increase. Is the 1.9 mj different internals.

Aisin auto box good for at least 180 BHP. It's just the chewing gum driveshafts that's the problem.

..and they'd be a problem even with 50bhp. You can't blame GM for them either - they're 100% mozzarella, and the GM ones are fine.

I thought I'd read of someone here with a clipping clutch after a re-map. Could be wrong though, or I'm right and it was a load of rubbish or something.

The Aisin as fitted to the 2.4 is limited to 380lbsft of torque.Thats probably 70 lbsft more than standard.
Maybe it was me who had the 1.9 chipped but in a stilo.A big no no.No problem to the engine, but serious issues with clutch and dmf.It was like a game of what component do we need to upgrade in the chain next.I threw the towel in after a new second or third flywheel lasting one day.
Could have been a bad file though. What ever.Incedently supposedly same clutch and flywheel on the twin turbo 1.9jtd.

And with the KKK still fitted?Im in two minds whether to ditch my dpf but the mot worrys me now. This interests me as far as i can see the cromas were made before dpf fitment became legal.I was thinking of getting a stainless steel box made that looked like a dpf and fit that,do away with the horrid kkk and fit a gtb2056v as fitted to the brera 2.4mjet.

How do you find the torque delievery with having it mapped, does it come in any earlier?

Mine is an 8v 120bhp. In 2008 Angel tuning remapped it to 160bhp and an extra 45 lbs/ft torque. It was the best 300 euro I've spent on the car (and there have been many!). Smoother, Faster and more economical. No clutch problems and now over 100,000 miles.
