Grande Punto My Red GP T-jet!

Introduction

Hello everyone,

So I've had my car for around 6 months now and have made a few threads about individual parts of my car. So I thought I should start my members motor thread (should of done this earlier!).

I'll just be throwing everything I've done so far into this post and then I'll update accordingly :)

So first off, the purchase:

This was one of the pictures took by the garage, they didn't clean it up as they should of and this pic didn't do it justice, but I saw the potential haha ;)

And this is one when I got it home

It then got a proper wash at some point

My first purchase was an Abarth aerial, not much but it all adds up!

I then realised that 2 of my alloys were buckled :( So I bought the optional upgrade alloys off someone on here :slayer:

Along with buying the alloys I also bought Abarth front headlights, worked out a good deal for both alloys and headlights as I bought them together (considering both alloys and headlights could literally of passed as brand knew) (y)

There was a bit of an issue regarding the fitment of my Abarth headlights, it appears my car was produced in the cut-over between the S1 and the S2. Cosmetically mine looks all S2 but the headlight connectors were S1 and I had bought the S2 version of headlights. So off down to the scrappy I went, look what I came back with...S2 headlights connectors!

As some of you may of noticed from the previous pictures - BULBS :) Thought I'd buy some osram bulbs all round before I fitted the abarth headlights. Osram Night Breaker Unlimited, Osram Cool Blue Intense and Osram Diadem.

It was then given a full wash, polish and protection with the Auto Glym products

And here's a bit of beading after using AG products for a while

And for my final update of this post, I vinyl wrapped my door pillars yesterday! As I'm sure most of us know the horrible black plastic that was there originally was so badly scuffed and scratched I decided it needed to change. I actually forgot to get a pic of the original vinyl but trust me it was horrible haha.

Here's the pillar with no vinyl

And here's the carbon fibre effect (can't take all credit, the girlfriend gave me a hand too)

It's not 100% perfect but I'm pretty happy with it, was thinking of buying some matte black pinstripe or something to mask over the top and bottom of the pillars to give it a clean cut finish.

And that's all for now! Hope you like what I've done with it so far, as for the future I'm thinking of:

  • EBC turbo grooved discs all round with EBC greenstuff all round
  • Remap
  • Rear tints
  • Paint brake calipers
And I'm sure some other things will happen along the way.

Thanks.
Hi,

The red is a brilliant colour when in good condition; shame the bumpers have a tendency to fade (I've had to front re-done, will do the rear at some point).

You ever had the front bumper off before? If not, use the snuggest fitting torx bits for the screws connecting it to the front wing, they round off quite easily and can be quite stubbord - get some pentrating oil on those a day before you plan on starting.

Once the bumper is off the intercooler and lights will be changed within the hour!

I then believe you'll have some 'fun' with the heatshield when swapping the turbo, I believe people just end up ripping it off. Apart from that it's just bolts.

You got new turbo gaskets in prep for this?

With regards to my car, I'll finish up some of the cosmetics and a full paint correction I hope. With a map tweak to push a little more power. In it's current form, it's an enjoyable drive with decent speed/handling = fun car :)

Yeah, unfortunately my front bumper is fading and so are a couple of other little areas, so respraying is on my list of things to get done!

I attempted it once when fitting a new foglight, the bolts are a bitch! Might make sure I got some spare bolts so I can replace any that are rusted (probably most).

Yeah might just rip the heat shield off and replace it with a new one, and the gaskets I think I have all the part numbers for: 55224615, 51814387 and 55196740. Assuming Fiat will charge me an arm and a leg for them!

Sounds good mate, you still hoping to break the 180 mark? I bet it's fun to drive and pull away from cars that don't suspect a thing! I'm still enjoying the standard power for the moment!

No problem mate, no I can't imagine you will feel much difference with a few extra horses. Just can't wait to get the work done on my car and get it remapped!

Just had a look mate, thanks for that! Think I will go and give that website a try.

You thought about possibly getting a forge actuator or the ss boost sensors to help hit your target? Personally been looking into the boost sensors but, don't know how much of a difference they make.

Yeah I've thought about both of those however it will likely end up being another £3/400 with getting them mapped in etc.

I'm able to get a map tweak for £100 which I guess will take me over 180 anyway and I'm not fussed about going any higher than that; reliability is key for me too.

People with my exact setup sometimes even see closer to 190 so we'll see. A smooth power curve/delivery is more important to me rather than peak bhp; as it'll likely be quicker!

You running any particular kind of petrol at the moment? If not, prior to your remap make sure you've had a few full fill ups of Shell V Power and continue to use that. Will get you a few extra horses on the map (y)

Yeah true, been trying to find the sensors cheap and still works out close to £200! Cheaper than what Fiat charge I think but, a lot to pay if they don't make much difference.

Yeah I would love to hit 190 but, 180 was the target and I would be more than happy with achieving that. I will keep that in mind, cheers for the tip :p

Hi mate, just re-visiting FF/my thread as I haven't posted in a while. Have you went ahead with your mods / remap yet?

Just a quick post to keep my thread alive. Not much has been worth noting since the dyno day.

I still have the option for a map tweak, which I may or may not go ahead with. Currently at 172bhp, the tweak would only add another 10-20bhp at max. But with the car still feeling nippy and being reliable as ever I'm not sure it'll be worth it.

When the weather gets a bit better I'd like to treat the car to a half decent detail as it's been slightly neglected over the Christmas period as I've also moved house.

Oil change and spark plugs are likely to be due (will check). With the possibility of new engine/gearbox mounts being required due to the extra power being put down over a lengthy period of time. I'll update accordingly.

I am on the OEM mounts at 250HP. What you can do is take them out, get some Windshield glue/adhesive/silicone/whatever it is, fill in the gaps and let them dry out for a couple of days. Mount and go to trackdays if you want ;):)

Hi Alex,

Been a while to say the least! have only recently had a look on this forum again. I did end up finally fitting all the parts and took it to pro alfa in watford for a remap about 2 months ago.

It made 153bhp on the first run which was the standard map. Then after being tweaked made 187.8bhp and 208.8ft-lb torque!! Safe to say I was very happy with the result and the car feels like a beast! Power curve is nice and smooth too!

Have you made any changes since we last spoke?

Hello Everyone,

I would just like to thank everyone that has been involved in my Motor Thread over the years, I've thoroughly enjoyed speaking to all of you. It's been great sharing my mods and also hearing about yours.

Sadly after much deliberation I think it's time to sell up :( the car still runs great and feels as quick as ever but after 3+ years and setting out all I wanted to achieve, I think it's time.

Hopefully you can all see how much work has gone into this and I'd love for the car to stay within the FF community, or at least to stay with a car enthusiast, so please do share with any friends that may be interested.

Thanks again everyone!

Saw you had put this up for sale on the punto page on facebook, hopefully the new owner loves it as much as you did mate. One of the cleaniest looking red t-jets I have seen so good luck with the sale! What you thinking of getting next?

Thanks mate, been good chatting mods/t-jets with you! You got a members motor thread going yet? Had a quick look but can't see anything. Can see you're making good power from the old beast now - love it!
I don't plan a buying my next "real" car til end of the year, just to benefit from price drops etc. So until then a cheap run around or something. But for the real one I'm thinking along the lines of Audi S3/Bmw 335i/M135i - who knows!

Yeah! No I haven't got a thread yet, need to see if I have many pictures of it all else it will just be before and after. but, I got to be honest I haven't got much else to do. It will be lowered on eibach sportlines in the coming months, need to spray the linea splitter I have sitting in its box for god knows how long gloss black. Might also get the bumper resprayed as for whatever reason it is a darker shade of red? Yeah, that's a good idea, how much you reckon you will get for it? I'm sort of starting to weigh up what I want next but, won't be getting rid of the t-jet just yet. Want to finish it off properly.

Yeah took me a while to get my Linea splitter fitted too, not sure why! Strange one with the bumper being darker; it's normally lighter! I'm not sure what I'll get for it as it's the first time selling a modded car, I know the market can be difficult. There's £3k in parts alone but I know that doesn't really mean much when selling. Will be good to keep and eye on your t-jet project :)
