Grande Punto My Red GP T-jet!

Introduction

Hello everyone,

So I've had my car for around 6 months now and have made a few threads about individual parts of my car. So I thought I should start my members motor thread (should of done this earlier!).

I'll just be throwing everything I've done so far into this post and then I'll update accordingly :)

So first off, the purchase:

This was one of the pictures took by the garage, they didn't clean it up as they should of and this pic didn't do it justice, but I saw the potential haha ;)

And this is one when I got it home

It then got a proper wash at some point

My first purchase was an Abarth aerial, not much but it all adds up!

I then realised that 2 of my alloys were buckled :( So I bought the optional upgrade alloys off someone on here :slayer:

Along with buying the alloys I also bought Abarth front headlights, worked out a good deal for both alloys and headlights as I bought them together (considering both alloys and headlights could literally of passed as brand knew) (y)

There was a bit of an issue regarding the fitment of my Abarth headlights, it appears my car was produced in the cut-over between the S1 and the S2. Cosmetically mine looks all S2 but the headlight connectors were S1 and I had bought the S2 version of headlights. So off down to the scrappy I went, look what I came back with...S2 headlights connectors!

As some of you may of noticed from the previous pictures - BULBS :) Thought I'd buy some osram bulbs all round before I fitted the abarth headlights. Osram Night Breaker Unlimited, Osram Cool Blue Intense and Osram Diadem.

It was then given a full wash, polish and protection with the Auto Glym products

And here's a bit of beading after using AG products for a while

And for my final update of this post, I vinyl wrapped my door pillars yesterday! As I'm sure most of us know the horrible black plastic that was there originally was so badly scuffed and scratched I decided it needed to change. I actually forgot to get a pic of the original vinyl but trust me it was horrible haha.

Here's the pillar with no vinyl

And here's the carbon fibre effect (can't take all credit, the girlfriend gave me a hand too)

It's not 100% perfect but I'm pretty happy with it, was thinking of buying some matte black pinstripe or something to mask over the top and bottom of the pillars to give it a clean cut finish.

And that's all for now! Hope you like what I've done with it so far, as for the future I'm thinking of:

  • EBC turbo grooved discs all round with EBC greenstuff all round
  • Remap
  • Rear tints
  • Paint brake calipers
And I'm sure some other things will happen along the way.

Thanks.
Thanks man! and haha I know, I was speaking to a few people yesterday who mentioned that I should paint the calipers. Just waiting until the weather is a bit better as I've never painted calipers before so would like to give myself quite a bit of time :) People have suggested I do them yellow?

Do them Red to match the car or yellow :)

expect the squeak to come back ebc's turbo discs are known for being noisy haha :p

Yeah my choices are: red, yellow or anthracite (y)

And noise wise; so good so far, even if they do start to make more noise it won't be anything like it used to be, think my pads were unbelievably worn  woops! (at least I think that was the cause of the squeak, we will soon see if it returns!)

If anyone is interested... I bought some oil (Shell Helix Ultra) in preparation for my full service at the end of the month.

I bought it from the opie oils ebay shop for £26 which is a bargain as it also included a free 1L and pouch :)

The servicing Alex is pretty easy for a day's work on your drive. Filters, oil and sparks should only take 3 hours? If your near to Bristol, happy to come up and lend a hand with the spanners. The turbo is a straight swap, but needs to be mapped in.
Personally I'd put a new exhaust, intercooler and actuator in before the turbo to cope with the extra pressure.

Hi mate, yeah the normal service doesn't seem too bad but I'll be getting the whole cam belt, water pump etc done so I'm just taking it to a local garage which I use and trust (he lets me supply my own parts so I'll be getting all the genuine items for peace of mind). I have also asked him to fit the turbo while he's at it as he has replaced loads of turbos before (not necessarily on the same car as mine but the concept is the same).

I appreciate your offer but I'm up in Newcastle :)

With regards to other mods; I'm going for the exhaust and intercooler along with the vl36 before the remap (also have a pipercross panel filter and esseesse intake pipe of course).

I have thought about the actuator but have heard a few horror stories so I'm going to get the map without and if I feel like I need one it will only be a map tweak (there's a couple of guys that have ran 180 bhp without the actuator with seemingly no issues; I know it's more to do with holding boost but I'll see how I feel after the map).

Any plans for your car?

I'm considering one of 2 options.

New car, with big engine.

Or, vl36/8 turbo, get it mapped in, intercooler, induction kit, blow off valve, custom turbo back exhaust, and then a bleed valve, going to do it slightly differently. I've already got the brakes and new clutch to cope with the extra power. Then maybe carbon panels, not sure yet.

Morning guys, a quick update which I've been keeping secret as I wasn't sure if it was going to work out or not!

Anyway I've managed to get my hands on a Linea Diffuser thanks to middo85 and a Linea Splitter thanks to Sean23491

Both won't be fitted straight away as I'm determined to get the vl36 fitted this month along with a full service. I've already got a quote for a front bumper and splitter respray which I imagine will be next month (splitter just has a few stone chips as expected nothing major).

By the way I loved seeing middo85 's car; looked exactly the same as mine- I loved it! Wish I got a picture now (n)

(please ignore the awful bedding in the pictures haha)

Little update, mainly because my thread doesn't have a lot of pictures. I gave the car a clean yesterday and decided to put the Linea Diffuser on for the pictures; still needs properly secured which I'll do when I find some time.

Although I'm focusing on the engine upgrades at the moment, it's pictures like these which make me want to be lowered so badly! Not long now I hope (y)

Looking great, my favourite fiat wheels and the gloss black diffuser looks great on red!

Are the diffusers fairly straightforward to fit?

Thanks man, and I have only rested the diffuser on for these pictures but it's obviously a perfect fit so will just need self taping screws and/or tiger seal underneath to keep it in place.
