Grande Punto My Red GP T-jet!

Introduction

Hello everyone,

So I've had my car for around 6 months now and have made a few threads about individual parts of my car. So I thought I should start my members motor thread (should of done this earlier!).

I'll just be throwing everything I've done so far into this post and then I'll update accordingly :)

So first off, the purchase:

This was one of the pictures took by the garage, they didn't clean it up as they should of and this pic didn't do it justice, but I saw the potential haha ;)

And this is one when I got it home

First car pic.JPG

It then got a proper wash at some point

My first purchase was an Abarth aerial, not much but it all adds up!

I then realised that 2 of my alloys were buckled :( So I bought the optional upgrade alloys off someone on here :slayer:

Along with buying the alloys I also bought Abarth front headlights, worked out a good deal for both alloys and headlights as I bought them together (considering both alloys and headlights could literally of passed as brand knew) (y)

There was a bit of an issue regarding the fitment of my Abarth headlights, it appears my car was produced in the cut-over between the S1 and the S2. Cosmetically mine looks all S2 but the headlight connectors were S1 and I had bought the S2 version of headlights. So off down to the scrappy I went, look what I came back with...S2 headlights connectors!

As some of you may of noticed from the previous pictures - BULBS :) Thought I'd buy some osram bulbs all round before I fitted the abarth headlights. Osram Night Breaker Unlimited, Osram Cool Blue Intense and Osram Diadem.

It was then given a full wash, polish and protection with the Auto Glym products

And here's a bit of beading after using AG products for a while

And for my final update of this post, I vinyl wrapped my door pillars yesterday! As I'm sure most of us know the horrible black plastic that was there originally was so badly scuffed and scratched I decided it needed to change. I actually forgot to get a pic of the original vinyl but trust me it was horrible haha.

Here's the pillar with no vinyl

And here's the carbon fibre effect (can't take all credit, the girlfriend gave me a hand too)

It's not 100% perfect but I'm pretty happy with it, was thinking of buying some matte black pinstripe or something to mask over the top and bottom of the pillars to give it a clean cut finish.

And that's all for now! Hope you like what I've done with it so far, as for the future I'm thinking of:

  • EBC turbo grooved discs all round with EBC greenstuff all round
  • Remap
  • Rear tints
  • Paint brake calipers
And I'm sure some other things will happen along the way.

Thanks.
It's not so good it's just the best/safest choice to upgrade and closer of making an abarth setup maybe.

Reuuk £250 and it's only got the delivery mileage on it :D

And with regards to why it's different/better is that the internals are essentially bigger. This version is used on the Abarth Grande Punto and is capable of 180 bhp after remap (if accompanied with correct mods). Compared to the standard in a GP T-jet (vl37) of around 155 bhp max.

The reason it's desirable is that it's a direct replacement and safe for the car. The whole turbo and the manifold can be swapped or can be swapped after the manifold; I believe.

Whereas a td04 turbo would require a whole new custom manifold which can run up costs really quickly.

Little update:

I spotted that a couple of guys on here have upgraded their intake pipe to the esseesse version, one being middo85 who was very helpful.

I was going to order off someone on ebay who was based in Italy which would of ran the cost to around £40, so on the off chance I contacted my local Fiat parts department and they were happy to order this in from Italy for only £23! Seemed worth it to me.

I don't believe that it will make a huge difference however it makes sense, as I have a vl36 to be fitted along with other mods which should take me to 170/180bhp. So it's peace of mind knowing the setup is nearly the exact same as the 180bhp esseesse (I also have a panel filter). Another reason for this is that I don't fancy an induction kit so this is the next best thing.

Thanks mate, glad you got it cheaper.

Its still a rare mod for something so cheap. I did it first, then Steve tjet and i cant remember seeing anyone else with it.

Its good for over 200 bhp on remapped esseesse's so should be as good as anything else

I looked into getting that Air intake feed for the standard box just before I went to view my current Tjet, however it came with a GSR :')

I just took mine off the Mjet, left it with a hole at bottom of the airbox. did the same job without the cost :')

as middo85 said, its good for over 200 bhp with a Garret turbo from the esse esse, (different manifold need though :( ) so with a panel filter you will be fine ;)

Yeah I agree, if this intake setup is good for 200bhp+ then I'm sure my theoretical 170/180bhp will be fine :)

Another thing to note is that after reading some Italian punto/abarth/alfa forums (using translate of course (y)) they appear to do this mod more often (believe this intake pipe comes on the cloverleaf version of Alfas) and they mentioned that the stock intake pipe actually gets warm as it sits close to the turbo. I wasn't sure about this so after my drive home from work I touched the intake pipe closest to the turbo and what do you know it was warm! Not hot but warm, which I'm sure can't be too good!

Anyway that just helped me justify the esseesse version :) (hopefully helpful to anyone else who is thinking about this).

Wow thanks man, appreciate it! I've always been a big fan of the blue GP (yours I believe!)

I managed to pick my rear lights up from eBay, always good to keep an eye out! Think I got them for £50 and were in perfect condition when I gave them a clean up, I was chuffed :)

I know there's a few people who sell their Abarth rears when they sell their GP, I see them pop up quite often on the Punto Enthusiasts Facebook page (well they have a specific selling page, think it's "Puntos and Parts, for sale/wanted"). So might be worth joining those groups if you haven't already and making a post asking if anyone's selling Abarth rears (make sure it's on the specific selling page though).

Mines a "New Orleans Blue" T-Jet with the optional stripe pack. Looks good, pulls really well (stock at the moment) and feels great. The Red on these just look so good!

I had a look, and posted my old tinted ones on there, got a couple of replies but nothing, I might just buy new ones from ebay/Carpartsuk and see how it goes.

I'm already on both PE and the selling page Haha!

Quick update. I fitted the Esseesse intake pipe, not a huge difference but it's nice to have it fitted (it will be more useful once I have vl36 turbo fitted and remapped).

Also I took delivery of my EBC turbo groove discs and greenstuff pads yesterday. I will make another post once they're fitted, can't wait!

Finally I picked up the modified scuttle drain pipe from Fiat, thought it was worth it as my alternator is currently working and would like to keep it that way! (The standard drain pipe can mean water drips onto the alternator).

I did indeed, they are introducing the black coating rather than the gold coating to the turbo groove discs but everywhere needs to use up their current stock first. The company I spoke to thought it would be 6 months until the front discs were ordered in black; didn't bother me too much.

And you've read my mind! I'm treating the car to a full service (inc cam belt etc) sometime soon so I may get the turbo fitted at the same time, if not it will be soon after as I want a freshly serviced engine with new oil before fitting the turbo :)

Also if you noticed my updated scuttle drain pipe Reuuk ; it was slightly inspired by your alternator failure which I seen on instagram the other day (top stalker over here). Don't know if your alternator failed for that reason or not (you may have the modified pipe already) but I thought I should play it safe and get one!

Yeah I noticed you put that scuttle one, yeah I have the updated one..hasn't done the job though has it hahaa

I got my EBC discs and pads fitted the other day, I'm impressed with their looks and can't wait for them to bed in properly! They have also got rid of an awful squeak that I had on my old setup; I think I let my old pads run too low :(

I should also have a full service coming up which is when I plan on getting my vl36 fitted, hoping for sometime at the end of this month. Which will only leave exhaust, intercooler, remap and H&R kit (for the major mods anyway!).

damn looks nice...!

You have to paint calipers asap :)

Thanks man! and haha I know, I was speaking to a few people yesterday who mentioned that I should paint the calipers. Just waiting until the weather is a bit better as I've never painted calipers before so would like to give myself quite a bit of time :) People have suggested I do them yellow?
