500 New 500S C TA 105hp

/jealous! :D

Love the colour. I've decided that my next car will be a red one.

Red cars are great, I've had a few but need more love and care than other colours. Red will fade /discolour faster than other colours so regular polishing and waxing is essential.

The wheels look great and it's proof that Italian sports cars should be red! (y)

But...

Is very true, non-metallic red is also "soft" colour that can scratched easily, get yourself the best protection you can find.

Too early to give a full report on the engine yet. Not had the chance to drive far as had to travel the day after I picked it up. But first impressions are that it is appreciably more lively than the 85 and the 6 speed box suits it well. Haven't given it the full beans yet. Only 35 miles on the clock!

Well you can look forward to it loosening up considerably over the next few thousand miles. I've 3k up now on my 85 TA and it's a lot more flexible then when new. It'll be interesting to see what sort of mpg you get. Enjoy!

How about some feedback on the 105?:)

Sure. Loving it!
Done about 800 miles so far mainly commuting and a couple of 30 mile journeys. Have been driving mainly in normal mode but have also used sport mode for a bit of fun. And that is exactly what this car is great at. Small commuter car when you want and pocket rocket when you want. Just what I was hoping for. And with the convertible roof which I have to say is open most of the time!
The engine is definitely loosening up but am not giving it the full beans yet, just the occasional blast through the gears for a bit of fun. Economy is good and getting better. I get low to mid 40s on the commuter run which is a mix of heavy traffic and a short bit of dual carriageway. On a slightly longer dual carriageway run at just under 50 I am seeing high 50s but this drops in traffic. Have only done a couple of shortish motorway runs. Both in the first couple of hundred mlles and got mid to high 40s. I am confident I would get more now. So far this tank is showing 43mph over 250 miles wit an average speed of 16mph. That is London for you! All in all I am really happy I went for the 105 TA. It's a hoot! Just can't wait to give it a proper blast!

that's much better than the 1.4's 35 mpg!

Respectable enough mpg and comparable with an 85. I guess once you start exploring it in sport mode you can expect it to drop off to mid or high thirties but you have the choice

Same journey with traffic 43mpg @ 17th. 10 mile round trip mainly on dual carriageway 57mpg. Done 980 miles now and mpgs still improving. And beginning to have a bit of
fun through the gears. It is shaping up to be a great car

You'll notice a big difference in flexibility and smoothness as the miles increase all the way up to 6 or 7 k

how fast do you drive on the dual carriageway to get that mpg?

The dual carriageway is a 50 limit and I tend to stick to that. The economy seems to have a sweet spot for economy which I am still trying to work out. It seems that the economy is better in the 50s mph range than the 40s which I guess corresponds to the torque curve. I seem to recall the 105 engine has peak torque at 2700rpm. The economy is quite logical for a small capacity turbo engine- the harder it is pushed the more the economy suffers and the proportional changes are greater than for a larger capacity engine. Perhaps an engineer or a physicist can explain it better than I am able to.
Has anyone worked out the economy sweet spot? I think I read somewhere that it should be at the speed at peak torque. Would that be correct?

oh ok 50 mph 57 mpg sounds normal= ). I thought you were getting that economy at 80 mpg which would have been an amazing figure.

it would be nice if you could join fuelly and we could follow your mpg.
