Grande Punto Introducing Our New(er/ish) Grande Punto

Introduction

So last Friday I had to have surgery on my right knee the result of this was strong pain killers, and eBay, apparently its not a good combination.

So First of all I bought a drum machine, I did this from my phone while still recovering in hospital immediately after the surgery.

all in all an awesome purchase although the Missus wasn't happy

Then a couple of days ago after a very heavy dose of strong pain killers I bought this.

Grande Punto 1.4 8v active sport (i'm not entirely sure why)
attachment.php

looks very much are deceiving and this thing is an utter mess, its so badly scratched its untrue every panel especially the roof and there are quite a few dings in the doors that need attention

the interior is filthy and need to come and and have a full and proper clean.

however.
everything works, which is amazing in its self, its covered just over 101k miles and the one owner its had from new has spent on the mechanicals and not bothered with anything cosmetic, the foglight is smashed after a run in with a rock and the lower grill is missing after a run in with a thieving scrote

a couple of plastic clips are broken on the interior but other than that its all there, original unmolested.

total bill was £1040 which is very cheap for this car even with all the body damage.

will get some more pictures tomorrow and give it a good look over but it got me home nicely over 170 miles with no issue.

the main aim is (if you don't know me) I make videos for YouTube on how to look after your Fiat Punto and i plan to use this very rough little car to make lots of Gande punto videos and eventually sell on so in the comming weeks it will be getting

full service
throttle body clean
maybe a cambelt
maybe a clutch

and lots of body work attention. i'm sure i'll find other things but essentially everything i do will go up on youtube for others to follow (y)
Well 6 months later and I still have it, it's growing on me but still has its little niggles.

That said its just walked through its MOT with an advisory on front tire worn to 2mm tread depth, can't be bad really

Same here would like to put a clutch in to make it drive a bit nicer

Compared to my mk2 multijet putting a new clutch in an grande 1.2 or 1.4 shouldn't be too hard.

I've just finally managed to get the heater working properly, air lock in one of the pipes preventing coolant flow through the heater matrix, tried everything with no success, in the end I put the hose pipe to the matrix directly to flush it out then connected the pipe with the airlock to the matrix and blasted it through with the hose, put it all back together and it's all working fine now and blowing hot :)

Well the grande will be going soon one way or another, I start a new job at the end of the month and won't be messing about with it any more.

The problem is I can't seem to give the bloody thing away. It's apparently worth £2400 on most sits and I've had it advertised for substantially less and all I get it morons texting me offers of £500 below be asking price. I have never had so much trouble selling a car !! Clearly the grande just isn't that popular.

Next step is to whack it on eBay at a low sub £1000 price with no reserve and hope it sells.

It will however be getting replaced.... Most likely with a VW but watch this space in the next few months

After having had it for a year, how much do you hate it, lol?

Let's put it like this, I've done less than 1000 miles in the last year in it and 200 of those were picking it up.

I find it wallowy and Lardy compared to my mk2 and compared to the 1.3 Diesel engine in my mk2 it has a bit of a drinking problem it needs help with

Do you reckon the wallowy tendencies are due to the mileage? How many mpg do you get out of it?

Gets around 47mpg (versus 62mpg on my mk2) and the wallowyness is down to soft suspension high profile tyres and being a heavy car by comparison.

The mk2 is on an even higher mileage so I really can't say the mileage of the grande has anything to do with it

I'm with you now! It's not thirsty, just not as good as your diesel. Do you find your mk2 handles better?

This week end I took the battery off and put it on charge also pumped up the tires and checked the engine over, still starts and runs beautifully

realised its not actually moved in 6 months....

Might need a bit of a clean up.

It's stood still for so long it's left a dent in the Tarmac...

The plan is to get it sold, problem is no one seems to want a grande Punto...?
