Grande Punto Introducing Our New(er/ish) Grande Punto

Introduction

So last Friday I had to have surgery on my right knee the result of this was strong pain killers, and eBay, apparently its not a good combination.

So First of all I bought a drum machine, I did this from my phone while still recovering in hospital immediately after the surgery.

all in all an awesome purchase although the Missus wasn't happy

Then a couple of days ago after a very heavy dose of strong pain killers I bought this.

Grande Punto 1.4 8v active sport (i'm not entirely sure why)
attachment.php

looks very much are deceiving and this thing is an utter mess, its so badly scratched its untrue every panel especially the roof and there are quite a few dings in the doors that need attention

the interior is filthy and need to come and and have a full and proper clean.

however.
everything works, which is amazing in its self, its covered just over 101k miles and the one owner its had from new has spent on the mechanicals and not bothered with anything cosmetic, the foglight is smashed after a run in with a rock and the lower grill is missing after a run in with a thieving scrote

a couple of plastic clips are broken on the interior but other than that its all there, original unmolested.

total bill was £1040 which is very cheap for this car even with all the body damage.

will get some more pictures tomorrow and give it a good look over but it got me home nicely over 170 miles with no issue.

the main aim is (if you don't know me) I make videos for YouTube on how to look after your Fiat Punto and i plan to use this very rough little car to make lots of Gande punto videos and eventually sell on so in the comming weeks it will be getting

full service
throttle body clean
maybe a cambelt
maybe a clutch

and lots of body work attention. i'm sure i'll find other things but essentially everything i do will go up on youtube for others to follow (y)
I find T-Cut blummin' hard work, compared to the Autoglym paint renovator -- which works a treat: even though I have neurological problems with my hands. You may need a couple of goes -- with a little bit of elbow grease (sadly, Autoglym don't make this: or I would be buying it in bulk...) -- but, followed by the super resin polish, and then protected with their sealant or wax, you should get pretty good results. (y)

If you want to do it 'properly' -- i.e. the Andy Monty way... -- you will need to attend either Hogwarts, or apprentice yourself to your local car care Jedi....

If I use that so soon after using t-cut, will it damage the lacquer? I'm afraid of damaging the paintwork!

get some waxoil on that bulkhead cover plate

modified scuttle drain

get the battery terminals cleaned and greased up and the earth strap :D

What's the issue with the cover plate, I noticed this area looked like it needed some attention when I change the oil earlier

And what's modified about the modified scuttle drain ?

It's fascinating watching you deal with this from scratch (sorry); and I think it will be a good thread to point people at when they say "I've bought a slightly tatty FIAT, and I want to make it look good, and run well", etc.. :worship:

"Tatty" would be an understatement, but in all honestly there is a good little car underneath all the dirty and scratches

yep good thread
shows how to turn a turd into a winner(y)

Basically what you do for a living :p

This may explain why it has a lovely shiny new Alternator I'll take a look and patched it up, my mk2b is dry as a bone under the bonnet where water seems to pour through the engine bay of this grande

So looking this morning it seems there is some sort of modified scuttle drain taking water well away from the alternator, but there is also a new alternator which makes me think both may have been done at the same time

The bulkhead does look a bit rusty hard to tell with the sound proofing in place but I think it's going to need some work

In addition here are the before and after shots of the roof after a very quick light machine polish

I think it's going to scrub up well just need the postman to bring me my fog light and tailgate badge (the current tailgate badge is the red one which is wrong for this car)

Have ordered a set of discs and pads which should arrive soon (£39) after that will be a full coolant and thermostat change.

Blue tailgate badge now fitted, it may never come off again as it was glued on with the same stuff used to stick windows in

All over scratches

Turned into extra shininess after attacking with extreme grit compound to remove all the imperfections, still lots of stone chips though.

Brake discs have arrived, only top quality parts here

It's still being rebuilt

Not just the polish uv light knackers them need to paint mine at some point

Have you tried the hot air gun trick, it does worked had to do all the trim on a 94 corsa we had years ago because all the black trim had virtually turned white.

Today's update new brake discs fitted took about half an hour once you take out the mucking about tea drinking and the neighbour who insisted in talking to me

ImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1400267675.971189.jpg

The worrying thing was just how badly worn the old discs were the lip on the edge of the disc was a good 3mm or more and had started to cut through the pad wear indicator wire ImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1400267767.128320.jpg
ImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1400267785.040474.jpg

And towards the centre of the disc there was some very uneven wear ImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1400267827.612345.jpg
Hard to see but there is a curved 'dent' in the wear area

Not done any more body work today but at least the brakes are a bit safer now
